Today, the European Union (EU) is an area of peace, freedom and prosperity, and it is the right time for the citizens of Montenegro to be informed about the advantages and obligations that membership in it brings, said the Deputy Head of the Delegation of the European Union in Podgorica, Alberto Kamarata.

Kamarata participated in the central celebration of Europe Day for the Montenegrin coast, which was held today in Kotor by the Eco-center Delfin and Radio Television of Montenegro as part of the project "EU means YES, values, policies and standards".

"I am very glad that more than 70 percent of Montenegrin citizens support the idea of joining the EU, which today is an area of peace, freedom and prosperity, and consists of 500 million people, i.e. 28 member states," said Kamarata.

He emphasized that the EU is one of the most developed regions in the world, the largest trader and donor of development aid, and an increasingly important actor in security issues around the world.

Kamarata said that the EU Delegation will continue to support Montenegro on its way to the Union.

The secretary of the negotiating team of Montenegro, Milivoje Jurišić, reminded that tomorrow marks 64 years since the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Robert Schuman, proclaimed his declaration, which, as he stated, meant that the angry rivals of yesterday would no longer resolve their disagreements by force, but by agreement.

"We can preserve peace only if we make creative efforts proportional to the risks that threaten it, and in recent years the EU has gone beyond its basic principle and developed in all fields," Jurišić said.

He said that the EU should not be idealized, but it should be known that today it is the most progressive and advanced community of peoples.

The mayor of Kotor, Marija Ćatović, said that it was an extraordinary honor and pleasure for her that the central celebration of the Europe Day for the littoral is taking place in Kotor.

"Historically, culturally and traditionally, our ancient Kotor has long been a European city, with peculiarities that place it in the cultural center of the Mediterranean and Europe," said Ćatović.

She said that multiculturalism and harmonious multiconfessional life have always been the main characteristics of life in Kotor.

"We expect our country's entry into the EU and NATO with optimism and hope. The day when we will join the great European family of nations where, as I believe we belong, will be extremely important for us", said Ćatović.

As part of the "European Union means yes" project, Eco Center "Delfin" implemented an education program in high schools in the area of the Montenegrin coast, which ended with a knowledge quiz, and the most successful team in that competition was the team of "Danilo Kiš" High School from Budva.
