Krivokapić: Tell me everything you know about the candidates for judges of the Constitutional Court

The Head of Parliament and President of the Constitutional Committee, Ranko Krivokapić, appealed to the citizens to give their comments on the candidates who applied for the positions of judges of the Constitutional Court, in order, as he said, to get the best quality judges.

The Constitutional Committee decided to form a three-member commission that will examine the suitability of candidates for judges of the Constitutional Court.

Yesterday, the Constitutional Committee adopted the Rulebook on the work of that body, which prescribes the procedure for selecting candidates who applied for the public call for the election of five judges of the Constitutional Court. The rulebook envisages the formation of a committee that will determine which of the 19 candidates meet the requirements.

Krivokapić said that the commission will consist of one representative each of the parliamentary majority, the opposition and the general secretary of the Assembly, Damir Davidović.

"The commission will submit the list during the next week. Based on the list of correct candidates, the Board will conduct an interview with them, which will be phonographically recorded, and after that we will try to reach the five candidates proposed by the Board," Krivokapić told reporters after the Board session, which was closed to the public.

19 candidates applied for the public call for judges of the Constitutional Court proposed to the parliament by the Constitutional Committee.

On the proposal of the Constitutional Committee, the Assembly elects five judges of the Constitutional Court, while the remaining two judges are elected on the proposal of the President of the State.

Candidates for judges must be prominent lawyers, be at least 40 years old and have 15 years of work experience in the legal profession.

Among the candidates who submitted candidacies for judges of the Constitutional Court by the deadline were the former deputy of the Albanian coalition "Perspektiva" Vaselj Siništaj, lecturer at the Faculty of Law Siniša Bjeković, lawyer Budislav Minić, but also the former director of the Energy Regulatory Agency Dragoljub Drašković, and judge in the Court of Appeal Mevlida Muratović and lawyer Milorad Gogić, and Ljiljana Radović, secretary of the Constitutional Court for many years.

Mira Samardžić, the deputy special prosecutor in the Supreme State Prosecutor's Office, Vesna Ratković, the director of the Directorate for Anti-Corruption Initiative, Marijana Laković, the deputy protector of human rights and freedoms, Miodrag Iličković, judge of the Constitutional Court, lawyers Dragana Vukčević and Ranka Perović, as well as Judge of the Commercial Court of Podgorica Nataša Bošković, former adviser in the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Justice Hamdija Šarkinović, and secretary in the parliamentary committee for legislation Snežana Kaluđerović, retired professor Blagota Mitrić and professor at the Faculty of Law Slavko Lukić.
