The President of Democratic Montenegro, Aleksa Bečić, announced today that it is obvious that the economic citizenship program is just another proof that the President of Montenegro, Milo Đukanović, wants to stop Montenegro's further path to the European Union.
"Citizenship of Montenegro throughout its virtuous and libertarian history has never been for sale, pointed out Bečić who, as reported by Democratic Montenegro, held a working meeting with the general secretary of the Democrats, Boris Bogdanović, with activists from the Municipal Organization of the Democrats of Pljevlja.
"However, it seems that the holders of power at the state level in this case have neglected or forgotten it, that is, they remember history only when they need it for the sake of daily political topics and the creation of artificially produced divisions. The best evidence of this is the fact that in Montenegro we have citizens who have been living there for decades with their children born in our country, and they do not have Montenegrin citizenship. And instead of enabling them to acquire citizenship, and thus showing that Montenegro is truly a country of social justice and the rule of law, the government enables those who do not have any ties with Montenegro to become Montenegrin citizens with money acquired in who knows what ways," Bečić pointed out.
Bečić said that the economic citizenship program is nothing more than another way for the government to, in addition to borrowing and loans, fill holes in the budget, which are the result of misguided tax and general economic policies.
"How irresponsible and risky this action of the Government is for the country is best expressed by the International Monetary Fund's warning that economic citizenship programs carry risks for small countries and the international community. It is unequivocally clear that it is an attempt to make people with dubious biographies and dubious capital become Montenegrin citizens. in order to provide them with freedom of movement in the countries of the European Union. As it is known by the morning, it is so obvious that the program of economic citizenship is just another proof that Milo Đukanović wants to stop the further path of Montenegro in a completely targeted, but extremely perfidious way. to the European Union, because as he said, the European Union is not a young bride that should be flocked to," said Bečić.
As reported by Democratic Montenegro, Bečić also referred to the warning of the head of the Delegation of the European Union in Podgorica, Aiva Orav, that Montenegro should carefully consider the economic citizenship program, which threatens to be a stumbling block on the path of Montenegro's accession to the European Union.
"There is no doubt that the European Union sent a clear warning that the introduction of economic citizenship in the manner presented could be an obstacle to further European integration. What's more, in 2010, Europe suggested to the Government to review the program of economic citizenship and asked Montenegro to introduce legal regulations in harmonize that area with the European Convention on Nationalities," said Bečić.
Bečić also stated that it is clear that the dismissals in the Radio Television of Montenegro (RTCG) and the return of the Public Service are under the shadow of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), and the reckoning and revanchism through which the dismissal was carried out, a proven fighter against organized crime and corruption from members of the civil sector, Vanje Ćalović Marković from the KAS Council and now the economic citizenship program, only mechanisms of alienated power holders without democratic legitimacy in order to block Montenegro on the way to EU integration.
"These and such false patriots have an alternative, which will without hesitation bring Montenegro into the community of European states," Becic said, Democratic Montenegro reported.
It was announced from democratic Montenegro that Bečić and Bogdanović thanked those present at the meeting for "the effort, dedication and commitment shown in all the campaigns in which the Democrats have participated since their foundation until today, with special reference to the selfless commitment and sacrifice that activists expressed at the local elections held in Pljevlje, where the Democrats achieved an excellent result".
