In Montenegro, it is necessary to strengthen the trust of citizens in the electoral process and continue work on improving the voter lists, it was assessed in the conversation between the representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP), the Delegation of the European Union (EU) and the American Embassy in Podgorica.
As announced by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a meeting was organized today in that department, where the representatives of the EU Delegation and the American Embassy were presented with the activities undertaken in connection with the initiatives of the presidential candidates for the supervision of about seven thousand cases.
The Ministry reminded that the initiatives were submitted to that department four days before the presidential elections.
At the meeting, the responsibilities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, that is, the Administrative Inspection, in accordance with the Law on Voter Lists, in the supervision of the implementation of the regulations governing the management of voter lists, the activities that the inspection has undertaken so far, as well as the results achieved during the previous controls were explained.
Representatives of the MUP pointed to specific cases in which supervision was carried out, as well as the legal basis, i.e. the reasons for changes in the voter list, which occurred as a result of changes in the records of the Ministry, concerning changes in personal name, social security number, residential address and other data , which are submitted weekly to local government bodies.

"As these authorities are responsible for the accuracy and up-to-dateness of the voter list, until its conclusion they were obliged to enter the mentioned changes into the voter list," explained the MUP.
The representative of the EU Delegation, Alberto Kamarata, thanked for the invitation to participate in the meeting, and assessed that it is necessary to strengthen citizens' trust in the electoral process and continue work on improving the voter lists.
"State Secretary Jadranka Vojinović pointed out that strengthening citizens' trust in competent institutions is the goal of state authorities as well, and that it is necessary to intensify activities to improve administrative capacities and exchange information between state and local authorities and the civil sector," says the announcement.
