The president of the Atlas group, for whom the Interpol warrant was issued, Duško Knežević, sent a letter to the head of the British diplomacy, Jeremy Hunt, in which he stated that since 2018 he has been in conflict with the family of the President of Montenegro Milo Đukanović, especially with his brother Aco Đukanović and sister Ana Đukanović and that on Wednesday it is that, as he stated, they want to take his successful business and replace it with their own business. In the letter to Hunt, Knežević also states that he does not wish to endanger the political forces that share his position on Montenegro's membership in NATO with the accusations he makes.
"I do not want Milo Đukanović's departure from the political scene to bring instability, weaken the government or change Montenegrin foreign policy, and I am convinced that the politicians in DPS are fully capable of leading the country forward," Knežević states in the letter.
He claims in the letter that he had a "particularly active role in the changes in Serbia in 2000 and the achievement of Montenegro's membership in NATO".
"The President of Montenegro, Milo Đukanović, has been in power continuously since 1992, and his influence on the institutions reaches as far as his dynasty. During 2018, I found myself in a growing conflict with President Đukanović and his family, especially brother Aleksandar and sister Ana. At the center of the conflict is the ambition of the Đukanović family to take over my successful businesses and replace them with their own. The conflict culminated in 2018, with the abuse of state institutions in order to mistreat my employees, introduce temporary management in my banks and lead them to bankruptcy, raise false criminal charges against me and my employees", Knežević states and adds that these actions affected over 70.000 international clients, including UK citizens.
Knežević, who is in London and for whom a warrant has been issued, says that he moved his family to Britain because of such mistreatment. He claims, among other things, that the "campaign of bullying him and his companies is politically motivated" and that the recent investigation of the A1 television, which he owns, is proof of that.
Knežević states that he understands that the British government has cordial relations with the state of Montenegro and that the British government wants to have confidence in Montenegrin institutions.
"During the years of President Đukanović's rule, Montenegro was suspected of being a place of corruption and abuse of power. My experiences in recent years have made it clear to me that Montenegro cannot continue to be a fiefdom of one family if it wants to achieve my goals, and the goals of the Montenegrin nard, to join the Euro-Atlantic community," he states.
Knežević adds that the actions taken against his business and him are symptoms of deep problems in Montenegro.
In the letter, Knežević states that the political leadership and political culture must be refreshed with new actors who will be unequivocally committed to the values of the Western Union of States.
"This means that the revelations about the inactions of the Đukanović family and the DPS, which I am presenting in the media, will continue. As someone who has been a political insider all his life, I have unlimited amounts of information about the criminal activities of the Đukanović family and their associates, and I plan to publish them in such a way that the questions about the competence of the Đukanović family to govern Montenegro remain open," asserts the president of Atlas Group.
If the European Court of Foreign Affairs, he adds, has doubts about whether Djukanović's family resorted to criminal activities in the past in order to achieve business and political goals, they will soon be dispelled by the arguments that, as he says, his lawyers possess.
"I am aware that these revelations put me and my associates at a certain risk of physical attacks, and I have informed the UK authorities about this," Knežević writes.
Knežević stated that he sent a letter to Hant in order to inform him about the background of the latest events in Montenegro, that is, the demonstrations against Đukanović.
