The arrest of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in London is an attack on freedom of speech and movement, Prava Montenegro said today.

The president of that party, Marko Milačić, said today in front of the Embassy of Great Britain in Podgorica, that Assange is one of the greatest freedom fighters in the world and that his arrest sent a message to anyone who thinks that he is dealing with freedom: "Don't do that, it is punishable, you will end up in prison".

"That's why we came in front of the British embassy, to tell them "shame on you" and to humbly ask Montenegro for freedom for Assange. Shame on you representatives of the British Embassy, Ambassador Alison Kemp, and your superiors," said Milacic.

He believes that the arrest of Assange in London concerns every citizen of the world, including Montenegro.

"Because that's exactly what they're selling us here, saying they're fighting for democracy and promoting democratic Western values." What are Western values? "We have never seen it better than on Thursday in London, when a free man was arrested in such a shameful, undignified way," Milacic added.

Assange, he believes, is the most deserving of the promotion of true freedom of speech in recent global history, and his arrest is a blow to freedom in general, to freedom of speech and to journalism.

"That man was in prison for seven years, although he was officially free in the Ecuadorian embassy in London. This is an attack on free people all over the world, and it would not even affect us so much in Montenegro if people from this and similar embassies were selling it to us for democracy and freedom," said Milačić.

He believes that the arrest of Assange is a joint undemocratic act of Great Britain and the USA.

"I ask Kemp what her partner in Montenegro, Đukanović, is doing? Is she aware that what they did in London on Thursday is also being done by their partner in Montenegro. "He also arrests and harasses those people who are engaged in freedom of speech here in Montenegro and promotes a system of non-democracy that affects free speech," Milačić concluded.

Representatives of that party left a letter to the Embassy because the application form was not open.

In a letter addressed to the Embassy, he states that, given that Assange is a world fighter for justice and a person who exposed hundreds of thousands of secret documents that incriminate Western power centers, primarily the United States of America (USA), they consider his arrest to be a shot in the arm. freedom, which will be reflected in the whole world.

"With this protest, we are actually joining a global movement that counts millions of people around the world who are looking for freedom for Assange. Please, as a representative of the British Embassy in Montenegro, convey our appeal to official London, so that the voice of Montenegrin freedom is woven into the world mosaic demanding the release of Assange," the letter added.
