The mandate of the Ambassador of Montenegro in Belgrade, Branislav Mićunović, has been extended for about a year because he will turn 67 in July, when, by force of law, he will have to retire, "Vijesti" learned from diplomatic sources.
This is also the case with the ambassador of Montenegro in Ankara, Branko Milić, who will also have to retire in July.
Milić presented letters of credence to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in October 2014, while Mićunović officially took office a little earlier, in August 2014.
Mićunović replaced Igor Jovović as the ambassador of Montenegro, moving into the embassy in Belgrade six years after his swastika, Ambassador Anka Vojvodić, was expelled from it. Due to Montenegro's decision to recognize Kosovo, the government of Boris Tadić declared Vojvodić persona non grata. His wife and the ambassador's sister is the director Radmila Vojvodić Mićunović.
Before leaving for diplomacy, Mićunović was the head of the Ministry of Culture from 2008 during the two prime ministerial terms of Milo Đukanović and once when the government was headed by Igor Lukšić. He came to the position of Minister of Culture after being the head of the Montenegrin National Theater for 10 years.
Apart from the reception on the occasion of the Statehood Day of Montenegro, on July 13, the media did not record any significant activities of Ambassador Mićunović. It is recorded that he attended the celebration of the 6th birthday of the Informer tabloid among 500 guests in the Serbian village of Rosići. The former Minister of Culture did not mind that "Informer" was recognized for spreading national and religious hatred and intolerance.
Mićunović was present in Montenegro in the first half of 2018 at several gatherings that can be classified as promotional activities of the then candidate for President of Montenegro Milo Đukanović, which is not explicitly prohibited by law.
In their income statement, Mićunović and his wife, a professor at the University of Montenegro, reported that they earned more than 92.000 euros last year. Last year, he became the owner of an art studio of 75 square meters, which he bought on favorable terms. He is the owner of an apartment of 187 square meters, an old family house of 77 and more than 30.000 square meters of land. Mićunović's ambassador's salary was an average of 3.200 euros. If he returned to the MFA, his monthly salary would amount to several hundred euros.
