The President of the DPS Municipal Board in Pljevlja, Vlade Milinković, told "Vijesta" that they have not yet decided who will be the new mayor of Pljevlja and that they will do so in the coming days. Milinković, as well as his colleague - DPS councilor and MP Danijel Živković, are mentioned as possible candidates for that position.
The previous mayor, Mirko Đačić (DPS), resigned on May 17, and did not publicly state the reasons.
Unofficially, it is speculated that he did it because the Government rejected his proposal to set off the multimillion-dollar debt of "Vektra Jakić" to the local administration against the debt owed by the Municipality on the basis of taxes and contributions.
At the collegium of the Assembly yesterday, it was agreed that the session at which the new President of the Municipality will be elected will be held on June 13 or 14. The Vice Presidents of the Municipality, Mevan Avdović or Anela Kriještorac, will perform the function of the President of the Municipality until the election of a new mayor. This is prescribed by Article 66 of the Law on Local Self-Government, which states that "when the mandate of the president of the municipality, in cases prescribed by law, expires, the function of the president, until a new one is elected, is performed by the vice president of the municipality, who is appointed by the assembly."
"We have not yet made a decision on who will be the new president. As always, it will go through the party authorities and we will certainly do it within the legal deadline and provide the best solution. We must act responsibly, react quickly so that citizens do not suffer," Milinković said.
When asked if he would accept to be the president of the municipality, considering that he is mentioned as Đačić's successor, Milinković said that he would not speculate about it now.
At the collegium of the President of the Municipal Assembly, Dragiša Sokićas, the heads of the councilor clubs yesterday agreed on the date of the meeting of the Municipal Council of Pljevlja.
Nova councilor Milan Lekić believes that DPS would easily choose a new candidate if they were not afraid of Đačić's re-acquisition of the council mandate.
Lekić: I believe he will say that he left
"Đačić's mandate as an alderman has ended due to the incompatibility of the alderman's function and the function of the president of the municipality, according to the Law on the Election of Aldermen and Members of Parliament. The same law defines that a councilor who resigned due to incompatibility of functions remains on the list of councilors and can re-acquire the councilor's mandate. DPS would have easily overcome the crisis if it wasn't about Đačić and if it wasn't easy to silence him, he would most likely speak up and explain the reasons why he resigned or, as I would say - the reasons why he was fired," said Nova councilor Milan Lekić. "News".
Lekić believes that the only real and fair way out of the current situation would be to shorten the mandate of the Municipal Assembly of Pljevlja and call early, extraordinary local elections.
