Good knowledge and consistent implementation of domestic and international legal norms by judges and prosecutors is a key line of defense against the dangers of illegal migration and terrorism, Deputy Prime Minister Zoran Pažin announced at the opening of the international conference of presidents of supreme courts and general prosecutors today in Bečići.
"Competent and efficient judiciary and prosecution, along with adequate work of the security services, is a necessary prerequisite for building a safe and just society as we strive for," Pažin assessed.
The Government announced that Pažin emphasized that the success of the fight against illegal migration and terrorism depends on the effectiveness of mutual cooperation between states and international organizations, as well as on the internal capacity and resilience of each state and each individual society.
"In Montenegro, we work seriously on both tracks - we actively participate in numerous international initiatives to fight terrorism and develop the security capacities of our state and society," stressed the Deputy Prime Minister.
He announced that Montenegro, within its capabilities, contributes very responsibly and actively to the international front in the fight against illegal migration and terrorism.
"In this area, we achieve continuous operational cooperation through INTERPOL and EUROPOL, as well as direct cooperation with the security authorities of other countries. Through the international exchange of information, the Montenegrin security authorities actively contribute to the detection of foreign terrorist fighters, smuggling networks and other security threats related to illegal migration."
He also recalled the adoption of modern regulations by which Montenegro incorporated into the domestic legal system the highest international standards of security protection and respect for human rights, both of its own citizens and of foreigners.
"Parallel with the construction of a modern regulatory framework, harmonized with international standards, we are faced with the important work of additional strengthening of institutions, i.e. further education, equipping and strengthening the overall capabilities of our institutions to deal with this significant security challenge," Pažin said.
