Lekić: The Romanian ambassador wanted to talk about affairs, Nikolić and Močnik interrupted the session

The deputy of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) and the president of the Committee for International Relations and Diaspora, Andrija Nikolić and the Slovenian ambassador, Mitja Močnik, abruptly interrupted today's session of the Committee at the moment when the Romanian ambassador Ferdinand Nagy and the representative of the country holding the EU presidency intended to read the published position EU regarding the current affairs in Montenegro, announced the president of Demos and member of the Board, Miodrag Lekić.

The Committee for International Relations and Emigrants held today a meeting with the ambassadors of the European Union member states in Montenegro, which was also attended by the President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Ivan Brajović.

"During the meeting, which was attended by the ambassadors of the EU member states, I repeatedly raised the issue of exchanging opinions on the consequences of the current corruption scandals and on the decline of the international credibility of Montenegro, as well as the dynamics of the integration process, while respecting the right of diplomatic representatives to be cautious in expressing their views Despite the efforts of the chairman, a member of the DPS, to direct the work of the Committee in only one technical direction - organizing a conference of young EU countries - I believed that the topic of integration without reference to the current moment of the country risks being treated in an abstract way, which I communicated during the meeting," Lekić said.

He said that he was surprised by the gesture and explanation of the Slovenian ambassador "that there is no more time, because he is in a hurry somewhere", which marked the end of the session and the interruption of the reading of the EU's position

"I have no intention of commenting on the performances of the ambassador of Slovenia in Montenegro and the chairman of the Committee, who abruptly interrupted the session at the moment of opening an important topic, and in a non-collegial manner towards the Romanian ambassador who had just started to read the EU announcement. However, I cannot but express surprise with the gesture and the explanation of the Slovenian ambassador "that there is no more time, because he is in a hurry", which marked the end of the session and the interruption of the reading of the EU's position. I admit that in this unusual gesture I can hardly recognize the country represented by the ambassador, bearing in mind that Slovenia has great success and to our joy, adopted the EU's high democratic, values ​​and diplomatic standards a long time ago," concluded Lekić.

On the occasion of today's meeting, it was announced from the Assembly that Brajović expressed his gratitude to the diplomatic representatives for everything done in the previous year, for their professional relationship and correct monitoring of the situation in Montenegro.

"Your support, suggestions and opinion expressed through reports is crucial for creating a position on the happenings in our country and the support of your countries to Montenegro in the process of European integration," concluded Brajović.

The President of the Committee, Andrija Nikolić, as announced by the Assembly, informed the diplomatic representatives that on April 15 and 16, Montenegro will host an international meeting: "Parliament of young countries of the EU and the Western Balkans".

"According to Nikolić, the idea is for the countries of the region and the EU member states to propose two deputies each, one from the government and one from the opposition, with an imaginary but flexible age limit of up to 35 years, and to open a debate in the Montenegrin Parliament on the perspective of the enlargement policy in the context of the upcoming elections for the European Parliament and consider the role of education as one of the key factors of democratic and economic development," the Assembly's announcement reads.

Diplomatic representatives who attended today's meeting welcomed the idea of ​​organizing a conference that would bring together young parliamentarians from EU member states and the Western Balkans, and expressed their readiness to provide logistical and other assistance in the realization of this, as they assessed, extremely important event, it is added in announcement of the parliament.

The meeting, which was organized on the initiative of the President of the Committee for International Relations and Expatriates, was also an opportunity to exchange opinions on what was done in the integration process in the previous year, the Assembly's announcement concludes.

In addition to Lekić, the meeting was also attended by members of the Board: Luiđ Škrelja, Dr. Dragutin Papović and Miloš Nikolić.
