Đukanović will participate in the meeting on the mini-Schengen in Tirana

The President of Montenegro, Milo Đukanović, will participate in the third meeting as part of the initiative to establish a mini-Schengen in the Western Balkans, which begins today in Tirana.

The mini-Schengen initiative was launched by the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, with the Prime Ministers of Albania and North Macedonia, Edi Rama and Zoran Zaev, with the aim of removing obstacles to the free flow of goods, people, services and capital. The Government of Montenegro previously said that Montenegro will not be part of the initiative.

Kosovo President Hashim Thaci announced on Facebook that he refused Rama's invitation to attend the regional meeting of the leaders of the Western Balkan countries, on December 20 and 21, stating that he is not going to Tirana "because of Serbia's obstacles in the consolidation of Kosovo's statehood".

Vučić said that he hopes that this initiative, which currently includes Serbia, Albania and North Macedonia, will be broader, Blic reported.

Rama told Tanjug that the summit of the leaders of the Western Balkans in Tirana on December 20 and 21 is a continuation of the initiated initiative on the establishment of a mini-Schengen.

Rama explained that the mini-Schengen initiative envisages that the countries involved in it want to take their future into their own hands and cooperate.

"This initiative is open and inclusive and is nothing new. What is new is only the common determination and goal to implement what was agreed upon several times and then left aside," Rama emphasized.
