The integration of the Western Balkans is in the common interest, and the strategic goal is the membership of Montenegro in the EU as soon as possible, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro, Srđan Darmanović, at a meeting with the Greek Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nikos Dendias, who is on an official visit to Montenegro.
The head of Montenegrin diplomacy said that Montenegro and Greece inherit friendly relations, which are reflected in the support provided by official Athens on the European and Euro-Atlantic path.
"Montenegro and Greece not only have exemplary relations and high-quality cooperation on the European level, but also as partners in the NATO alliance, within which we cooperate and responsibly fulfill our obligations as a member. In this context, we greatly appreciate and welcome the role of Greece, as one of the carriers of the Airspace Protection Program of Montenegro," said Minister Darmanović.
Dendias pointed out that the integration of Montenegro and other countries of the Western Balkans is a strategic goal of Greece, because it is the best way to ensure peace, stability and progress in the region.
"Official Athens highly appreciates Montenegro's contribution to the development of good neighborly relations and regional cooperation. I would like to reiterate our readiness to support your efforts towards the EU and through the implementation of the Memorandum on Cooperation in European Affairs," said Dendias.
He added that Montenegro and Greece have good cooperation within NATO, which includes a successful mission to protect Montenegrin airspace by Greece, together with Italy.
