The President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Ivan Brajović, met today in New York with the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres.
Brajović, as it was announced from the Assembly, expressing satisfaction at the opportunity to talk, pointed out that Montenegro highly values the partnership with the United Nations, and stressed that Montenegro is committed to the fundamental values of the UN and that as a civil and secular state it is a safe home for all its citizens.
Speaking about the region, Brajović reiterated the importance of preserving regional stability and the necessity of the full integration of the Western Balkans into the European Union, as a precondition for faster progress in the region. He added that a stronger presence of the United Nations is very important, especially in projects aimed at strengthening democratic processes.
According to the Assembly, Guterres emphasized the importance of UN cooperation with Montenegro, which plays a significant role in the region.
He, it is added, expressed his belief that 2020 will be more successful as far as the enlargement process is concerned, bearing in mind that European officials have confirmed that the Western Balkans will be one of the priorities.
"Be sure that we at the United Nations have an interest in supporting the integration of Montenegro as well as the other countries of the Western Balkans, because we want a stable and prosperous region," Guterres said.
He emphasized, the Assembly concluded, that the UN is available in all areas where Montenegro believes there is room for stronger cooperation.
