United Montenegro (UCG) announced today that the arrest of Milivoj Brković was politically motivated.
"Last night, before midnight, Milivoje Brković ended up again in the Podgorica Security Center in a shameful way. He was detained, and the detention was preceded by a shameful action by the police who intercepted Brković at a family celebration. It is obvious that this is a politically motivated arrest because he will never be forgiven for painting the tricolors and the courage he has shown since then. He was arrested for allegedly spreading false news about the coronavirus, for causing panic and fear. And the extent of the panic is best evidenced by the fact that the police served Brković with a summons to report to the Security Center, filling out the invitation form on the spot, in a car that was parked in front of the catering facility where the baptism of Brković's niece was celebrated," the UCG press release states.
The statement added that the moment was obviously chosen that could have produced a violent reaction from family and friends that would have allowed the police to legally use force.

Yesterday, our party asked the Minister of Health to urgently publish information on how many of our students have returned from Italy in the meantime, and from which areas, because that information was officially announced by Ambassador Vlahović, but we did not receive an answer. We asked about their health and the precautionary measures that were taken. That fact, given the address it came from, caused more unrest than many Facebook posts on the same topic. However, the Ministry kept quiet about our justified call," the UCG statement reads. .
They also said that the arrest of Brković was revenge rather than prevention of the spread of panic.
"The untimely publication of deaths caused by ordinary seasonal flu in the past days contributed to the spread of fear in Montenegro. The terribly bad communication strategy applied by the competent ministry yesterday caused a fever of buying anything and everything in markets all over Montenegro. People have not forgotten the shameful setting up of tents in front of infectious disease department without any announcement, so that fact made people uneasy, which is only intensifying. That party said it condemned, as they said, the shameful behavior of the police and the abuse of individual and collective fears for reckoning.
"UCG will not allow Brković to be "shot by the police and media" for allegedly spreading panic and fear, and essentially for the dignified resistance he provides with a group of young people to the action of the ruling party under the working title "let's strike fear into the bones" of all those who do not think like us. , concludes the UCG announcement.
