The Social Democratic Party (SDP) will request that decisions on the allocation of social assistance from the budget reserve be made by a special body in which representatives of the government, the opposition and the civil sector will participate, announced the general secretary of that party, Ivan Vujović.
He said that the SDP will submit amendments to the Proposal for Amendments to the Law on the Financing of Political Entities and Election Campaigns, established by the Government, which enables the payment of social benefits in the election year in the event of a state of war and emergency, as well as in the event of an epidemic or pandemic of infectious diseases. .
Vujović told the MINA agency that the goal of the SDP's amendment action is to ensure maximum transparency in the provision of social assistance from the budget reserve in the election year.
"The SDP will demand that decisions on the allocation of social assistance from the budget reserve be made by a special body in which, in addition to government representatives, representatives of the opposition and the civil sector will also participate," Vujović announced.
As he added, if there is a good intention of the government to fulfill the purpose of changing the law, which is to provide help to those who really need it, then there will be no problem to meet the SDP's proposal.
"If the intention is to use the extraordinary circumstances to reactivate the mechanisms of abuse, then there will be no understanding for our proposal, and instead of a message of trust, solidarity and togetherness, we will have the usual self-interested - party-calculated action on stage," Vujović said.
As he stated, it is indisputable that in the current circumstances it is necessary to activate various mechanisms to help citizens, but no arbitrariness or political party decision-making should be allowed when it comes to this matter.
Vujović said that this situation requires unity and solidarity, which everyone must be committed to.
"That is why it is our joint obligation to do everything in the context of the issue of social assistance to our citizens in order to eliminate possible abuses that, unfortunately, have been the rule in the actions of the current government so far," Vujović said.
This, as he stated, is the only way to build trust, without which there is no fruitful joint social action.
Vujović said that the SDP has completely adjusted its activities in the existing conditions to the current greatest interest, which is the protection of citizens' health.
"We believe that the usual politically intoned oppositional criticism of the government, even while the danger to all of us continues, must have an exclusively constructive dimension aimed at general and not particular goals," Vujović added.
As he said, the SDP's proposal is on the trail of such an approach and has only one goal - "to show with a concrete example, and not just with words, that we are not interested in political calculations, but in acting in the general interest".
