The Government of Montenegro has been up to the task since the emergence of the coronavirus, but the next period will be even more challenging, and will require increasing inventiveness, proactivity and intervention of the Government, said the representative of the Bosniak Party (BS) in the Parliament of Montenegro, Ervin Ibrahimović.
He added that in addition to the primary fight for human life, we must preserve our economy and jobs, which will be a demanding task due to the strong pressure and consequences caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
"A pandemic happened for which the world was not prepared. The virus has paralyzed the world economy. People all over the world lose their jobs and face the problem of providing livelihood for their families. Our citizens face the same problem. In this difficult historical moment that requires the response of our society as a response of one family, I welcome the determination of our Government to open a dialogue with all actors in our society through a set of proposed measures, in order to protect our economy and better help the economy and citizens in this difficult moment. It is good that the Government has accepted to help our economy. In addition to recognizing the vulnerable categories of our society, it is of crucial importance to preserve micro, small and medium enterprises, i.e. jobs", says Ibrahimović.
He says that citizens throughout the country are affected, but that the situation is particularly difficult in the north of the country.
"The north of Montenegro, as the least developed region, is particularly vulnerable and requires additional attention. That is why a special emphasis must be placed on the process of helping micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, agricultural producers in the north, those engaged in the processing industry, as well as catering. I repeat, our goal must be to save jobs, so that people don't lose their jobs," said the BS representative.
He believes that this situation has additionally warned us that we must turn to domestic production to an even greater extent, in order to be less dependent on imported products.
"This is certainly an opportunity to, through stronger and more concrete measures, projects and grants, stimulate as many people as possible to engage in agricultural production, to provide healthy and ecological food, and later to market it. We must constantly increase the number of domestic agricultural producers. To strengthen the awareness of our citizens to buy local food", said Ibrahimović.
Ibrahimović concluded that we cannot expect a quick and high-quality recovery of our country's economy without long-term measures, which will lead to a high-quality and stronger exploitation of the potential of the northern region, which is the richest in natural resources in our country.
MP BS also praised the work of the National Coordinating Body for Infectious Diseases.
"The information we receive daily from the NKT, regarding the fight against the COVID-19 virus, i.e. the protection of citizens' health, gives us the right to believe that measures have been taken, first of all by the competent institutions, but also by our citizens who are in our homeland , as well as those in the diaspora, showed above all knowledge, expertise, solidarity, humanity, readiness and determination in the direction of protecting the greatest value of this society, which is human life. I expect that in the coming period, as a society, we will focus more strongly and respect all the recommendations of the NKT with the aim of suppressing the spread of infection and preserving human lives," Ibrahimović pointed out.
