Democrat MP Dženan Kolić claims that today the police visited temples in Podgorica, Nikšić, Pljevlja, Herceg Novi... and asked the priests to close them without any order.
This, Kolić claims, was done "on the direct order" of Prime Minister Duško Marković and Director of the Police Directorate Veselin Veljović.
"This is a continuation of the policy of persecution of Churches and religious communities in Montenegro. The fact that the background of everything seen today is of a political nature is also confirmed by the fact that everything was carried out without any order, which the Police Directorate and NKT are silent about," Kolić says.
The question arises, as he said, in which article or paragraph of the current regulation the police base their actions.
"The entire public is a witness that the MCC and other Orthodox dioceses in Montenegro adhered to all the prescribed measures, and showed the highest level of commitment to the recommendations of the health profession. It becomes quite clear that the police, on the order of Duško Marković, are prescribing measures, beyond those valid and positive regulations, in order to serve the regime's goal of creating a false image and affixing a false label to the Church as someone who does not respect valid measures and thereby trying to undermine its legitimacy among the people. This instrumentalization of the police is a continuation of serving its top to daily politics, instead of the interests of society and the people as a whole," Kolić said.
He believes that Veljović wants to "demonstrate force towards the Orthodox Church".
"Just as the official of the DPS and the mayor of Ulcinj, Mr. Nrekić, attacked the Roman Catholic Church, citing as the cause of the increase in infection the visits on the occasion of the Catholic Easter, so the police chief Veselin Veljović wants to demonstrate force against the Orthodox Church, which respects all measures and performs rituals without believers , but also to carry out a demonstrative exercise of applying the scandalous law and establish control over the keys of Orthodox temples. With this illegal action by the police, the regime wants, among other things, to divert attention from the ruined budget and economic capacities, for which this government and its favorites are responsible. and because of which society's ability to effectively preserve jobs and overcome the crisis has been reduced," Kolić concluded.
