Representatives of the Montenegrin diaspora have shown that seriously dealing with the coronavirus pandemic requires joint action, solidarity and commitment to the best standards of personal responsibility and humanity, said the president of the Committee for International Relations and Expatriates Andrija Nikolić.
He sent a letter to organizations and associations of diaspora-emigrants from Montenegro.
Nikolić said that, in a difficult period for the whole world, due to the pandemic caused by the coronavirus, the citizens of Montenegro and its diaspora share the same concerns.
"Aware of the situation in which our homeland found itself, the representatives of the Montenegrin diaspora showed that seriously dealing with the pandemic requires joint action, solidarity and adherence to the best standards of personal responsibility and humanity," said Nikolić.
According to him, the citizens of Montenegro listened and read with enthusiasm every day about the donations and patriotic engagement of prominent Montenegrin emigrants and diaspora associations.
"The love for one's motherland demonstrated by the Montenegrin diaspora this time is also a confirmation that emigration never forgets its roots, but inspires everyone individually to give their best in overcoming the crisis," said Nikolić.
As he stated, the unique, patriotic example of the humanist Hajriz Brčvak resonated throughout the region "and showed many that difficult times also bring great heroes".
"I believe that by carefully following the events in our country, you are aware that for a long time Montenegro was the only European country in which no case of coronavirus was recorded, and that the Government, following the recommendations of the profession, was the only one in Europe to make a decision to introduce restrictive measures to protect people's health even before the first registered case," said Nikolić.
According to him, the engagement of the responsible people of the Clinical Center, the Institute of Public Health, the entire health system, but also other Montenegrin institutions engaged in the implementation of government measures during the pandemic, confirmed that Montenegro has reached a high level of social and institutional development.
"Also, it has been shown that the citizens believe in the institutions, and because of this today Montenegro has the lowest mortality rate, a low morbidity rate and a high rate of recovery from the virus," said Nikolić.
He said that great credit for the dedicated and organized response of the state to the coronavirus pandemic also belongs to the Montenegrin diplomatic and consular network.
"Which decisively helped in the organization of the return of our citizens to Montenegro, and of foreigners from Montenegro, but also in securing humanitarian aid and donations from abroad and the diaspora," said Nikolić.
According to him, Montenegro will have a big challenge in front of it, how to maintain economic stability and restore the course of strong progress it was on in previous years and at the beginning of this year, bearing in mind that the current health and social challenge is a blow to the Montenegrin economy.
"In the time ahead, a new unity of the citizens of Montenegro and its diaspora will be necessary in the economic recovery of the country. "By turning to domestic production, buying Montenegrin products and spending the summer in the most beautiful place in the world - Montenegro, we will contribute to the recovery of our economy," said Nikolić.
He thanked everyone who helped Montenegro with their donations and engagement in dealing with the coronavirus epidemic.
"With the sincere desire that Montenegro and the countries where you live and work come out of the crisis as soon as possible and start the road to recovery," said Nikolić.
