The new Freedom House report, according to which Montenegro loses its status as a democratic country in the formal sense and is labeled a hybrid regime, confirms the views of the SDP, which have been repeated several times, that there has been a trend of degradation of democratic processes and the state of institutions in the country for a long time, which our European partners also call captive. , announced the general secretary of the SDP, Ivan Vujović.
"We remind you that Freedom House is one of the most renowned American institutions whose views and analyzes are recommendations for defining the official policy of that country. This is a serious message to the Montenegrin authorities, a serious warning sign that negative trends when it comes to the state of democratic institutions and the rule of law must be to interrupt and make a clear departure from the previous model of governance, which, instead of a democratic one, is based on an authoritarian model," Vujović said.
He says that the government must understand that the country is best defended by democracy and that the time has passed "when it was possible to turn a blind eye to the obvious problems of the Montenegrin political system from our partner Western addresses."
"It must be a more than clear and sufficient sign for the Montenegrin authorities that after 2003, for the first time, Montenegro formally loses the status of a democratic country and is mentioned as a country where the government is based on authoritarianism. I guess it is clear to everyone that a country with such a way rule can never become a member of the European Union.
