Members of the Democrats, DF and SNP left today's session of the Assembly of the Capital City, due to, as they stated, the arrest of priest Joaniki from Budimlja-Niššić and several priests of that diocese, as well as riots throughout Montenegro. The councilors of the Civic Movement also left the session, after their councilor Luka Rakčević received an answer to the councilor's question.
The head of the Democrats' councilors, Vladimir Čađenović, said that they called on all councilors and deputies throughout Montenegro not to participate in the simulation of democracy due to the deprivation of freedom of Bishop Joaniki from Budimljana-Niššić and several priests of that diocese.
"We cannot participate in the simulation of democracy in moments when someone, because he professed his religion, finds himself in some unconditional, Nikšić casemate, and because we have scenes last night in which a child ended up in the hospital just because he professed his religion," he said. is Čađenović. He added that he will not attend tomorrow's session of the Assembly of the Capital City, unless the situation changes.
The head of the DF councilor club, Miodrag Bešović, pointed out that there is no point in discussing local issues, while, as he points out, there is chaos in which the clergy are arrested, citizens are beaten, suffocated with tear gas, and criminal charges are brought against politicians because of their words.
"These are not normal conditions in which Montenegro can function, let alone the local parliament. DPS formed a coalition with the corona virus, which caused chaos in Montenegro. It was all planned and directed towards the peaceful protest of the citizens of our church that took place before the pandemic, at which hundreds of citizens expressed their disagreement with the controversial Law on Freedom of Religion in magnificent gatherings. The government used the story of the corona virus and is trying in every way to prevent the riots," said Bešović.
SNP member Bogdan Božović said that his party strongly condemns the arrest of the priest of the Montenegrin Littoral Metropolitanate and Bishop Joaniki, as well as the citizens who expressed their disagreement with the authorities' decisions in a peaceful and dignified manner.
Member of the Citizens' Movement URA, Luka Rakčević, said that all the events in Montenegro are the result of someone in the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) "knowingly pressing a button" and deciding to start an election campaign, which they "responded to with enthusiasm joined by certain nationalist opposition parties".
"However, the key to calming tensions lies precisely with the DPS, which by selective application of the law and unnecessary tightening of relations is pushing Montenegro into a further escalation of violence. Because how is it possible to explain that VDT Ivica Stanković begged the corrupt Migo Stijepović for seven days to come and to make a statement, and that the bishop and the priests, who asked the people to disperse, were arrested during the night. Besides, I am not defending either of them, but I am calling for the fair application of the law. Those double standards destroy any call for principle and consequence they have scenes from last night," added Rakčević.
