The Minister of Internal Affairs of Montenegro, Mevludin Nuhodžić, and the Ambassador of Serbia to Montenegro, Vladimir Božović, agreed that the division of opinion regarding the Law on Freedom of Religion can be overcome through dialogue and agreement of all responsible actors in society.
As announced by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP), Nuhodžić received Božović today.
The announcement adds that Nuhodžić pointed out that after the adoption of the Law on Freedom of Religion there are certain misunderstandings, while reminding of the key values that were built by Montenegro and that all its citizens inherit.
"Montenegro has clearly established itself as a civil society and passes laws that are equal for everyone. I believe that the citizens of multi-ethnic and multi-religious Montenegro will continue to nurture peace, coexistence and tolerance. These are our greatest values, and the civic concept on which our society rests - the only is a safe way to resolve all dilemmas. Therefore, our intentions coincide with European values and therefore we must all work together to preserve and improve healthy human, institutional and political relations, for the sake of a better future for all of us and the further development of good neighborly and friendly relations between Montenegro and of Serbia," concluded Nuhodžić.
The statement added that Nuhodžić and Božović expressed their satisfaction with the police cooperation between Montenegro and Serbia so far, especially in the fight against organized crime.
"They jointly pointed out the importance of strengthening cooperation between the border police of the two countries in the area of combating illegal migration, as well as intensifying activities to improve border crossings in order to speed up the flow of people, goods and capital," the Ministry of Interior said in a statement.
Nuhožić particularly referred to common interests in the process of European integration, which is an additional incentive for more intensive cooperation and mutual support in achieving full membership in the EU.
It is stated that one of the topics of the meeting was dealing with the coronavirus epidemic.
"In this crisis situation, we have become convinced that both security and health challenges are transnational in nature. Viruses, as well as organized crime, illegal migration and terrorism, know no borders and the only way to effectively oppose these threats is intensive and continuous cooperation." , said Nuhodzic.
Božović positively evaluated the activities of the Operational Headquarters of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which organized the return of Serbian citizens who found themselves in the territory of Montenegro, which is an indicator of solidarity and togetherness.
"In that context, he especially praised the sacrifice and dedication of the members of the border police of Serbia and Montenegro," the MUP said.
