The Socialist People's Party (SNP) announced that the announcement by the Prime Minister of Montenegro, Duško Marković, that in the coming days Montenegro will open its borders to those countries that meet the epidemiological criteria of the Institute for Public Health "stirred spirits in the Balkans".
This measure currently prohibits citizens of the Republic of Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina from entering Montenegro.
"Namely, Marković said that the borders will be opened for those countries where the number of infected is 25 per 100.000 inhabitants, among which are Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Germany, Hungary, Albania, Greece, etc. Is Marković aware that on In this way, the state of Montenegro is clearly and completely discriminating against tourists from Serbia, who are traditionally the most numerous at our destinations, as well as against all those citizens of Serbia who have families, relatives, friends, and property in Montenegro," it was announced. is from the SNP.
They say that it is obvious that the state leadership of Montenegro does not think long-term, but allows the current political tensions between the leaderships of the two countries, which were mostly caused by the adoption of the controversial Law on Freedom of Religion, to spill over into all other segments of our relations.
"Such a stubborn and short-sighted attitude, unfortunately, only harms Montenegro, because we will lose loyal guests who for years have been the most present in our tourist centers during the summer season, especially on the coast. Instead, an unequivocal message was sent to the citizens of Serbia that, instead of brotherly and friendly Montenegro, they spend their summer vacations in Greece, Croatia, Turkey and other countries, which will certainly know better how to value their trust. At a time when countries all over the world are fighting for every guest and every euro, we give up a big number of tourists who for decades left a large part of their money precisely in Montenegro and greatly contributed to our tourist traffic. The Socialist People's Party of Montenegro calls on the Government to once again carefully consider this move, to curb political euphoria and score political points ahead of the elections by creating problems there where there are none, but to separate the economy and the need to strengthen the tourism industry from daily political topics and current events. Only a responsible, serious and wise attitude towards this issue will show that we are a country that, above all, cares about the interests of its citizens, and not about partisanship and dealing with imaginary enemies, which does no one any good," the SNP concluded.
