The Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) will defend the civic character of Montenegro in the upcoming elections and win another great Montenegrin victory, said the president of that party, Milo Đukanović.
Đukanović visited the Stara Varoš Ministry of Defense in Podgorica, as part of the pre-election campaign for the upcoming parliamentary elections. The meeting was attended by DPS Presidency member and Mayor Ivan Vuković, President and Secretary of the Capital City Committee Časlav Vešović and Nermin Abdić, and candidate for deputy Suad Šabanović.
Đukanović, as reported by the DPS, expressed his satisfaction for attending the meeting and pointed out that we can be proud of the fact that in the past decades, Montenegro was the only one in the territory of the former Yugoslavia that managed to preserve peace and strengthen inter-ethnic and inter-religious harmony. "But he warned, although we believed that the ideas of ethnic homogenization had been overcome, today we are witnessing that they are being reborn in the region, which points to additional caution and the need to protect the foundation of modern Montenegro - the civil character of our country," the DPS statement said. -a.
It is added that he said that during the nineties, Montenegro restored its economic dignity, refused to be subsidized and established the stability of its economic system. "That is why we are sure that even today, when serious economic challenges are ahead, the Democratic Party of Socialists has the capacity to lead the country and preserve stability. We can do it, and we know how to do it," said Đukanović.
The first value to be defended in the upcoming elections is the country whose independence we restored in 2006, he said. "And if we were less proud of it, and if we were less satisfied with what we did - and we did a lot because, among other things, we brought Montenegro into NATO and became a leading country in European integration - we would have to treat it with full respect. .Because it is our country, our only home, and every responsible man has an obligation to protect his home. We therefore have an obligation to defend the independent state of Montenegro as the most important heritage we have created. I believe that each of us is proud of the contribution we have made rebuilding the state house and that it is something that is at the top of the achievements of this generation," said Đukanović.
Another thing that is being defended in the elections, he adds, is the right to provide a contribution to greater stability, development and further emancipation of the region in which we live. "Very often when we talk about domestic political issues, we forget about the important role that Montenegro plays in a very specific region. Throughout history, the Western Balkans had serious turbulence that limited stability here and endangered people's lives. With its geostrategic position and lagging behind in development, it has given rise to a kind of intolerance, narrow-mindedness and emphasis on the differences between the people living in this region. Very often, thanks to this backwardness, we understood diversity as our handicap. Instead of understanding it as a new, additional value to the quality of life in this area. Today, when we look, "Montenegro seriously leads the way in the region in many respects," said Đukanović.
The third thing that is being defended in these elections, as he said, is the right to continue the intensive development of Montenegro.
"The Democratic Party of Socialists will not allow this great work to be destroyed. We created all of this, and we have to defend it. In order to help Montenegro finally become part of modern European civilization, to return to its European home," he concluded. Đukanović, saying that he is convinced that the DPS will celebrate "another great Montenegrin victory" in the upcoming elections.
