The key interest of the authorities for conducting elections must be a legal and fair election day, the Center for Democratic Transition (CDT) announced and called on those authorities to devote themselves to the legal implementation of the election process.
From that non-governmental organization (NGO), they called on the lists participating in the elections to behave legally during the election day, to remove their headquarters from the polling stations, to refrain from violence and to enable the voters to freely and undisturbed decide whether and for whom they want to vote. in the elections.
It is important, as they said, that parties refrain from publishing unverified and unreliable election results.
"CDT calls on the authorities for the implementation of elections - the State Election Commission, municipal election commissions and polling boards to put aside political and party differences tomorrow and to devote themselves to the legal implementation of the election process," the CDT statement said.
The NGO said that the key interest of those bodies must be a legal and fair election day.
The CDT appealed to the prosecution and the police to refrain from excessive reactions during the election day, but also to take an active attitude towards possible perpetrators of crimes in and around the polling stations, as well as all perpetrators of crimes related to the election process.
"Their task, on their part, is to enable a legal election process, but also a sense of security for all election participants and citizens of Montenegro, regardless of their affiliation," said the CDT.
They called on media houses, NGOs, agencies, influencers on social networks and all other actors of social life to refrain from publishing unverified and unreliable or inaccurate information about the elections, and especially the election results, in order to avoid possible confusion and tensions that may arise from those hasty moves.
The CDT said that they will also join this way of working, so they will focus on accuracy, and not on the speed of publishing data.
"Neither the CDT nor anyone else has the right to play with the safety of the citizens of Montenegro," the announcement states.
It is added that everyone who adheres to democratic values and rules will refrain from celebrations, which in any way can disrupt the election atmosphere or provoke dissenters.
"We wish for a "boring" election day without tensions and violations, but we also tell everyone who might be planning to carry out illegal activities that we are well prepared and organized and that we will inform the public and competent authorities about all such attempts," stated the CDT.
They reminded the citizens of their right to vote according to their conviction and that no one has the right to influence their choice by illegal means - whether they will vote and who they will vote for.
"The power is in their hands, they are alone behind the voting screen and there they are free to support whoever they want. We encourage those who feel that this right has been threatened in any way to inform the competent state authorities, the prosecution and the police, or to submit the necessary information to the CDT and thus bravely defend their basic civil rights," the statement reads. .
The CDT called on all actors of the election process to respect the epidemiological protection measures as much as possible at all times and, in addition to the legality of the process, also take into account the health of the citizens.
