The Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) is ready for post-election talks with potential partners, above all with the parties with which it constituted the parliamentary majority until now, it was announced after the session of the Presidency.
It was ordered that there should be no conversation with those who mixed religion and politics in the elections, who return the country to the past and poison it with Greater Serbian nationalism, in which there is no place for either the Montenegrin state or the Montenegrin name.
It was established that the election day, in conditions of high turnout and specific measures of the National Coordinating Body, took place in a peaceful and tolerant atmosphere and that the citizens expressed their political will in a democratic way.
It was assessed that the result achieved by the DPS was below expectations, and in the coming period the party authorities will deal with it in more detail.
"Nevertheless, DPS is the individual winner of Sunday's elections with over 143 thousand votes, which is ten thousand votes more than the second-placed candidate, with support above 35 percent and the most mandates won," the announcement says.
It is estimated that such a result is all the more significant because it was achieved in the conditions of the COVID 19 pandemic and its consequences, an unprecedented propaganda campaign from the neighborhood against the DPS and its leaders.
"And the open participation of the Serbian Orthodox Church, which is unheard of in election processes in modern Europe." "Unfortunately, this was not condemned by the international community either," says the statement of the Presidency.
DPS would like to thank everyone who contributed to the democracy of the election process, especially members and sympathizers, all Montenegrin patriots who voted for the party, aware that it was a vote for the defense of Montenegro, its sovereignty, the Euro-Atlantic path and multinational harmony.
For those values, as stated, the DPS pledged all its political and moral credibility in previous decades, when it led the historic process of restoration of independence, for which it will continue its uncompromising struggle.
"DPS remains unwavering on the front of defending national interests, and will do everything for its expansion, which will contribute to the preservation of basic social values, the construction of a civil state of the rule of law, the strengthening of multi-ethnic harmony and the acceleration of its European path," the statement said.
At the session, it was stated that the election result did not shake DPS in its determination to fight for the defense of its strategic goals on the political ground and with political means. "Especially now when those goals, which are also the highest national interest of Montenegro, can be called into question."
It is stated that the process of constitution of the new parliamentary and executive authorities started on election day.
"Parties and coalition talks will continue, which should result in the agreement of those whose program objectives are the most similar, in order to secure a parliamentary majority for the formation of the Government." "Given the danger that has loomed over Montenegro, the DPS will subordinate its party interest to the greatest possible extent to the general interest of all patriotic forces to preserve the independence of Montenegro, our identity, our Euro-Atlantic path, the value of anti-fascism and our inter-ethnic coexistence," he says. in the announcement.
The DPS said that there is nothing to discuss with those who mixed religion and politics in the elections, who are taking us back to the past and poisoning us with Greater Serbian nationalism, in which there is no place for either the Montenegrin state or the Montenegrin name.
