The American government is looking forward to a partnership with the future government of Montenegro, constituted through a democratic process, as a reflection of the will of the people, said the ambassador of the United States of America (USA) in Podgorica, Judy Rising Reinke.
After the State Election Commission announced the official results of the parliamentary elections held on August 30, the Embassy announced that the USA congratulates Montenegro on its demonstrated democratic maturity during peaceful and participatory elections in the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Rising Rajnke assessed that this is a historic moment for Montenegrin democracy.
"The US government looks forward to partnering with the future government, constituted through a democratic process, as a reflection of the will of the people. The USA will continue to be a friend, partner and ally of the citizens of Montenegro," said Rajing Rajnke.
As announced by the Embassy, the US government respects the professionalism and commitment of all those who played a role in the conduct of the elections, including election observers from the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) and civil society.
"The US is pleased to have supported the election process through our assistance to the European Network of Election Monitoring Organizations observation mission, made possible through a grant to the National Democratic Institute," the statement said.
It is reported that, in addition, a significant number of Embassy staff participated in observing the voting process during election day throughout the country.
"The American government hopes that the peace and dignity that Montenegrin citizens demonstrated on election day will prevail in the post-election period as well," the Embassy said.
As they stated, the US Government condemns all acts of violence and intimidation and calls for the protection of minorities and human rights, the key principles of democracy.
"And while the democratic process continues in the period of formation of the new government, the American government welcomes the promises of various political leaders to keep Montenegro on the Euro-Atlantic path, to maintain the key elements of Montenegrin foreign policy and to prioritize the reforms needed to speed up accession to the European Union," it says in announcement.
It is added that the USA is convinced that Montenegro, fully integrated into Western institutions, will lead to greater prosperity and a brighter future for all its citizens.
