The President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Ivan Brajović, announced that he will call presidential elections on Friday, January 19.
After consulting with the heads of the parties of the ruling majority, he said that all the participants of the meeting confirmed that they will lead a positive campaign and that they will not contribute to the growth of tensions in any way.
"It is quite normal that we expect tensions to increase during the campaign, that there will be certain subterfuges and suspicions, but we are convinced that the citizens of Montenegro, as before, will know the difference between the truth and the delay," said Brajović.
Brajović said that the representatives of the opposition behave irresponsibly towards those citizens who voted for them.
"Their absence clearly shows the significant problems they have in communicating with each other. If they cannot organize a joint meeting, then it was unrealistic to expect them to come to consultations regarding the presidential elections, and to face the arguments of the parliamentary majority," Brajović assessed.
He said that the meeting was attended by all relevant political subjects, who responsibly approach the obligations and important issues of society.
"We discussed the presidential elections, and the conditions and circumstances under which they will be held," said Brajović.
He said that the parliamentary majority, whose representatives were at the meeting today, is responsibly doing their job for which the citizens elected them, "we protect the Constitution and protect the state".
Brajović said that the Assembly, at its last session in the previous year, implemented the recommendations of the ODIHR and additionally improved the electoral legislation by adopting the law.
The only thing, as he said, was that the Law on the Election of Councilors and Members of Parliament was not amended, and that only for one reason.
"And that is the absence of the opposition's desire to participate in the improvement of the electoral legislation," added Brajović.
He said that he spoke with representatives of ODIHR this morning.
"I fully believe that it is crystal clear to them that the state authorities of Montenegro have done everything that was expected of them to arrange the election environment, to make it as good and transparent as possible, and that the election conditions are equal for all participants," Brajović said. .
Only the leaders of the ruling majority parties came to the consultations with Brajović, and the presidents of the opposition parties refused to participate.
Milo Đukanović (DPS), Rafet Husović (BS), Mehmet Zenka (DUA), Andrija Popović (LP), Đerđ Camaj (AA), Nazif Cungu (Forca) and Marija Vučinović (HGI) were at the consultations with Brajović.
