The President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Aleksa Bečić, met today with the heads of the resident agencies of the United Nations in Montenegro - acting UN resident coordinator and permanent representative of UNDP Daniela Gašparikova, UNICEF representative Juan Santander, head of the IOM office in Montenegro Dušica Živković, and head of the World of health organizations in Montenegro, Minam Brajović.
As announced by the Assembly, Bečić, congratulating the 75th anniversary of the United Nations, emphasized that Montenegro remains committed to the fundamental values of the UN, the affirmation of effective multilateralism, open cooperation and the strengthening of partnership with the UN. It is added that he expressed his gratitude for the continuous support to our country and the engagement of the entire UN system in Montenegro in response to the consequences caused by the pandemic.
With the conclusion that the Assembly is expected to be a factor of synthesis, cohesion and homogenization of the Montenegrin society, Bečić, as reported, indicated the openness of the national parliament for continued cooperation dedicated to the Sustainable Development Goals.
The representatives of the UN agencies informed Bečić about the key priorities in the upcoming period and expressed their readiness to continue cooperation with the Parliament and competent parliamentary working bodies through future initiatives.
As it was announced, Gašparikova wished the President of the Assembly a successful upcoming mandate of the new convocation of the Legislative Chamber
"Parliament has a vital role in strengthening inclusive political dialogue, which ensures the preservation of dignity and respect for diversity of opinion. I believe that the parliament will play its role in shaping future democratic reform processes in the country by engaging a wide range of governmental and non-governmental partners, dealing with the issues of vulnerable groups to ensure that no one is left out," Gašparikova said.
