It's nice to read Samuel Beckett in your free time... But in the serious policy that this government has been leading, you have to be guided by laws, rules and rational development solutions, announced this morning from the Government of Montenegro.
"When it comes to Sava's hip in Žabljak, the public was informed even earlier that the Government of Montenegro provided funds for the construction of a new cable car and ski slopes, which would further strengthen Žabljak on the map of prestigious winter tourist destinations. That project, however, was not possible be implemented due to the explicit conclusions of the Advisory Mission of the World Heritage Center at UNESCO, which indicated that "potential large-scale construction within the property, such as water infrastructure, replacement or construction of ski lifts, artificial snow infrastructure, earthworks, including partial removal of trees and bush - must be avoided". This attitude of UNESCO, in translation - the ban on the construction of a six-seater cable car - is the only and exclusive reason why it was abandoned on the Sava kuk", the Government's statement in response to yesterday's announcement of the Municipal Committee (OO) of the Socialist People's Party (SNP) Žabljak..
The statement added that, as a result, the procedure for terminating the contract with the contractor was initiated, in order to avoid unnecessary costs for the budget.
"For this reason, bringing this decision into connection with Prime Minister Marković is absolutely malicious. In addition, the existing cable car on Javorovača is not owned by the Government, but is private property, so it would be natural for the SNP to be informed first and only then to write such announcements. Nevertheless, the Government, Prime Minister Marković and his team should be brought into the context of Žabljak tourism - but as actors of household work and creators of development policies that have benefited Žabljak and the Durmitor area," said the Government.
They said that they are therefore encouraging the SNP in Žabljak and the entire SNP, as part of the current parliamentary majority, to undertake everything at their disposal, including in the context of checking each segment of the procedure for the acquisition of the cable car, communication with the competent UNESCO bodies, and finally the decision to install the cable car on ski center Žarski na Bjelasica.
"In particular, we encourage them and the other "caregivers" there to deal with development policies in Žabljak in the future, but in a responsible way, in order to preserve what this Government left as a legacy. And to support sustainable development at UNESCO instead of wholehearted commitment to stop any development," concludes the Government announcement.
