In the last year, Montenegro experienced a historic change of government in the elections, and the democratic maturity, which is reflected in a peaceful, civilized and European manner in the post-election period, represents the pride of the entire Montenegrin society, said the President of the Assembly Aleksa Bečić, who today prepared a cocktail for representatives of the diplomatic bark in Montenegro.
Bečić, speaking about the current social and political situation, stated that Montenegro is facing enormous epidemiological, economic and social challenges, integration obligations, as well as expectations in the field of the rule of law and expressed his belief that the representatives of the political majority will invest "maximum effort, knowledge , energy, their competences, so that with clean hands, sincere hearts and with a lot of energy, they can start the gradual recovery of our society".
Emphasizing that the foreign policy priorities of the new government remain committed to European integration and strengthening alliances within NATO, he reminded, as announced by the Assembly, of the importance of strengthening the civic character of Montenegro on the internal level, so that with the necessary cohesion of society, our country would show determination in the fight against corruption and crime.
Bečić, with the aim of strengthening the control role of the parliament, informed the attendees of the steps taken towards the drafting of the new Rules of Procedure of the Assembly and the adoption of the Law on the Assembly. He expressed, as announced, the expectation that at the end of December, the innovative Rules of Procedure of the Assembly will be adopted, which will "contain imperative obligations according to which one of the vice-presidents of the Assembly will be from among the minority parties, and one from among the less represented gender".
"We will increase the number of control hearings, we will introduce an obligation according to which ministers will be obliged to attend the sessions of the Assembly and working bodies when proposals for legal solutions concerning their departments are defended," he added.
Bečić specifically referred to the results achieved in order to improve the openness and transparency of the Assembly. In addition to the fact that, as stated by the parliament, the sessions of the working bodies will for the first time be broadcast directly using the most modern technology, the opening of accounts on social networks, more direct communication of citizens through the institutionalization of the institute of petitions, the announcement of a more modern web presentation of the Parliament, Bečić also announced the digitization of the legislative process , within the eParliament project, which will facilitate and improve the work of deputies.
The President of the Assembly pointed out that the two key goals of the new parliamentary majority are the reform of the judiciary and the comprehensive reform of the electoral legislation. "Compromise is the most important word that awaits us in the coming year, and this year will be a test of the sincerity of both the government and the opposition in their commitment to European integration. I believe that we will all be ready to rise above party interests, to understand our European obligations, as well as the responsibilities and expectations of the international community," concluded Bečić.
