In addition to political agitation inappropriate for a diplomatic function, among the reasons for the recall of seven Montenegrin ambassadors is the suspicion that some of them served private interests or the interests of various groups or individuals.
This results from the response of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MVP) to the request to explain the reasons for which the recall of diplomats chosen by the former government was requested.
In their written answers, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that the reasons for the recall are different, but it is not specified individually to whom each objection or violation of the Law on Foreign Affairs applies:
"Some of them are intensely politically engaged, and appointed to such prestigious positions exclusively on that basis, while active party involvement in this profession is absolutely unacceptable and inappropriate. Others, among whom there are also career or semi-career ambassadors, have, unfortunately, served the private or interests of various groups or individuals much more than the state, and some are the product of unacceptable political arrangements", writes the answer to "Vijesti". The Government of Montenegro proposed the withdrawal of Darko Pajović from China, Miodrag Vlahović from the Embassy of the Holy See, Obrad Miš Stanišić from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Vera Kuliš from Germany, Dušanka Jeknić from the United Arab Emirates, Sanja Vlahović from Italy and Tarzan Miosević from Serbia. The impeachment decree should be passed by the President of Montenegro, Milo Đukanović (DPS), whose cabinet did not answer "Vijesti" whether to accept or reject the Government's request. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs explains that, on the whole, none of these diplomats fits the profile of an ambassador in the way the Government sees it, although, as they state, its key foreign policy goals and priorities will, of course, not change."
According to unofficial information, as well as earlier announcements of the new government, this is not the final list of those that the Government will withdraw. The Ministry did not specify who is the next person they intend to return to Podgorica, stating that "the Government will decide on the possible further withdrawal of the ambassador, which the public will be informed about in a timely manner."
The MFA states that ambassadors should possess the highest level of dignity as the most worthy representatives of their country, and that as such, they must not be involved in pre-election or post-election political campaign activities. That is, as they claim, in the active promotion of one party and the degradation of others in the interlocutors in the receiving countries, which was the case. "It should also be remembered that ambassadors, as state representatives, are paid from the budget financed by all citizens of Montenegro, regardless of their political affiliation. Therefore, they are expected to be politically neutral, regardless of their personal beliefs”. With such activities, as stated by the MFA, the recalled ambassadors caused damage to Montenegro on several levels, which led to this decision.
"It is less important whether it is three previous months or three previous years", added the Ministry, after Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapić explained earlier that the basic criterion was the withdrawal of non-career diplomats and those who "caused damage to Montenegro".
On that occasion, the members of the opposition demanded a parliamentary control hearing of the minister.
SNP: Shall we start conducting our own politics?
Yesterday, the Socialist People's Party (SNP) asked the Minister of Foreign Affairs Đorđe Radulović and the Prime Minister to urgently recall Ambassador Milica Pejanović Đurišić and the delegation of Montenegro to the United Nations because they abstained from voting for the draft Resolution on suppressing the glorification of Nazism. SNP Vice-President Danijela Đurović said that last week at the session of the UN General Assembly, during the vote for the draft Resolution on suppressing the glorification of Nazism, neo-Nazism and other practices that contribute to encouraging modern forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related activities, the delegation of Montenegro was restrained.
Đurović assessed that the behavior of the Montenegrin delegation led by Pejanović Đurišić was absolutely reprehensible: "Montenegro must not be a vassal of other people's interests and bow to other member states of the European Union, which also abstained, just because this resolution was proposed by Russia. Shall we start conducting our own politics and respect our interests for once".
