Abazović: We have to step out of the Balkan understanding of politics

"We need to understand that the pledge for the future is an investment in young people, who need to change prejudices from the past. They need to build bridges of reconciliation and cooperation. We need to step out of what we recognize as a Balkan understanding of politics," noted Abazović.

The Vice-President of the Government of Montenegro Dr. Dritan Abazović opened today the final annual conference of the Regional Office for Youth Cooperation of the Western Balkans (RYCO) in Montenegro.

As announced at the conference, Montenegro will take over the chairmanship of that organization from 2021.

Speaking about the work of the RYCO organization in Montenegro, Abazović pointed out that regional integration is not only one of the priorities of the new Government of Montenegro, but one of the priorities on the way to the European Union. He also expressed respect for the work of the RYCO office in Podgorica. "That project, which is being developed in the region, is necessary so that we all understand together that we have to change our ways of thinking on the way to adopting new values. It mostly depends on people who are younger. Changing the matrix of behavior, actions, understanding and increasing overall trust in the region is easier to achieve through younger people," said Abazović.

He underlined that, since before, RYCO views it as an important project of reconciliation and familiarization.

"The Government of Montenegro should be absolutely committed to youth messages. Our vision is to make formal borders, as well as those in our heads, invisible. Only such a vision will lead to the fact that one day we will all meet in the European Union. We should understand that the pledge for the future is an investment in young people, who should change the prejudices of the past. They should build bridges of reconciliation and cooperation. We have to step out of what we recognize as the Balkan understanding of politics," noted Abazović.

In the conclusion, the Deputy Prime Minister stated that he hopes that in the future Montenegro will encounter many more such initiatives, positive energy, as well as projects that will have noticeable results in youth policies. "The Government of Montenegro should be a partner in such initiatives," concluded Abazović.
