The anti-church tones that could be heard today from the Congress of a nominally civil and secular party confuse people, quarrel brothers and cause social damage, said the rector of the Cetinje seminary, Gojko Perović.
He told the MINA agency that the President of Montenegro, Milo Đukanović, "is tireless in creating and deepening divisions."
"He did not understand the citizens of the country whose president he is, just as he does not understand his own Montenegrin history," said Perović.
He stated that the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC), although it has a national sign, is the church of all believers regardless of their nationality.
"As Montenegro is the state of all its citizens, regardless of their identity, even though the name of our country is, among other things, the name of a nation," said Perović.
He said that the SPC has a clear and unequivocal continuity with the church from the Kingdom of Montenegro, which was both of Svetosava and Vidovdan, and which kept a clear orientation towards the restoration of unity with the Patriarchate of Peć, which happened and which was supported by all its priests, bishops and monks.
Perović pointed out that the church is not interested in identity divisions, because it is of good will for all people.
"But such anti-church tones from the Congress of a nominally civil and secular party confuse people, quarrel brothers and cause social damage," concluded Perović.
