The police department is withholding the name

If the Draft Law on Internal Affairs is adopted, the Police Directorate will retain that name and will not become the Directorate of Police, despite the fact that it will definitely rejoin the Ministry of Internal Affairs, writes the response of the Working Group during the public debate on this law, which was proposed on the last day of last year.

The cabinet of the police director in his comment on the new legal solution stated that due to "current political and personal interests, the MUP is imposing solutions that are not in the interest of the police and that limit their operational independence and further depoliticization".

The processor stated in the answer that the police under the auspices of the MUP will not change the name, and that they took care of the importance but also of not "humiliating" that organization.

During the public discussion, 305 comments and suggestions were received, and most of the questions were about the way the Police Administration works if it is returned to the MUP. Most of the comments from the UP cabinet, which had objections to almost every member, were not accepted by the Working Group. Objections regarding the fact that, in addition to the Ministry of Interior, UP also has access to data collections.

UP also commented that for them, Article 119 is unacceptable and discriminatory, which provides for the polygraph examination of officials only for one organizational unit. In the response, the processor rejected the UP proposal and stated that polygraph testing was introduced only for officials, who are engaged in the fight against organized crime and corruption, in order to have the best and most honest officials for those jobs.

"Just accepting to work in such responsible jobs requires greater control and supervision," the answer reads.

The proposal that all police trainees should have seniority, regardless of their positions, was not accepted either, but they announced that they will prepare a list of positions for which seniority will be counted with increased duration. In its answers, the working group clarified that, if the Draft Law on Internal Affairs is adopted, the budget funds for the work of the UP will be in the MUP, and that all purchases for the needs of the police will be carried out by the MUP.
