The administration of the city of Nikšić, headed by the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), has not taken care of sports for the past several decades, so the situation in that area is catastrophic, although Nikšić is considered a sports city and a city that has produced top athletes, said Deni Popović, a candidate for councilor. from the list "Black on white - Može Nikšić".
He pointed out that the Municipality, which was managed by the DPS, did not encourage the development of sports in the city for years and that almost all the money that went to sports went to one or two places, while other sports clubs, individual athletes and sports associations received "crumbs from the table" or nothing.
"Just this year, in anticipation of the elections, the Municipality announced a public call for the allocation of funds to sports clubs, but even in this case, the money was not distributed in an equal and transparent manner, according to the rules, but there were privileged ones. If they wanted to help sports and athletes, they would have done it much earlier and not right before the elections," said Popović.
He pointed out that due to the lack of funds, many clubs were shut down, as is the case with FC "Čelik".
"Nikšić sport needs depoliticization, which will be achieved by changing the ownership structure in the clubs, because now we have a situation where mostly DPS officials sit in the governing bodies. This allows funds from the budget to be diverted only to those clubs and there is no control over how they are spent," said Popović.
He notes that the best athletes and clubs must be supported from the budget, and individual sports should be stimulated and infrastructure invested in, as he said, has not been invested in for decades.
"The attitude of the Municipality towards sports is best illustrated by the fact that the Municipality of Nikšić, not so long ago, took away the premises of the only active boxing club in the city. Apart from that, there are no incentives for the best athletes and the sport does not rise to a higher level," Popović points out.
He also assessed that the Sport Strategy adopted by the Municipality is "a dead letter" and that it has no basis in practice, as sport is the "last hole in the pipe" for the DPS administration.
Popović also says that special attention must be paid to school sports in Nikšić, as well as creating conditions for people with disabilities to play sports.
"To sports and athletes, the city of Nikšić has been a mother to some and a stepmother to others, and that must change, and the prerequisite for that is the arrival of new people at the head of the city who will have to deal with all the problems affecting all athletes, sports clubs and sports workers", he concluded. is Popovic.
