The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MVP) should tell us whether there is illegal interference by countries from the region in the election process in Nikšić, the Center for Democratic Transition (CDT) announced today.
"Is the behavior of state and party officials from abroad contrary to diplomatic conventions and good customs?", asked CDT.
The non-governmental organization (NGO) announced that they launched the "Vote freely" campaign aimed at the citizens of Nikšić, in order to promote the inviolable right to free political choice.
"The goal of the campaign is to remind citizens of their right to vote according to their convictions and that no one has the right to influence their choice by illegal means," states the CDT statement signed by Dragan Koprivica, CDT executive director.
The CDT said that the financing of election campaigns from abroad, targeted media and disinformation campaigns and the direct involvement of other countries and their officials in the election campaign undermine the democratic legitimacy of the election.
They also said that the Agency for Electronic Media should announce whether there is an illegal influence of the surrounding media on the decision of the citizens of Nikšić.
"Are there legal mechanisms to act against this phenomenon?", asked the CDT.
The NGO said that the silence of state authorities means approval.
"Silence means that nothing special, unusual, or even illegal is happening in Nikšić," CDT said in a press release.
They also stated that on the CDT website (https://www.izbori.cdtmn.org/) installed an application that citizens can use to send applications in case their vital rights are threatened during the election process or if they have noticed abuses for electoral purposes.
"Nikšić men and women, vote freely," the CDT statement concluded.
Local elections in Nikšić will be held on March 14.
