Secretary General of Democratic Montenegro Boris Bogdanović and Vice President of that party Momo Koprivica announced that the Democrats accept the Draft Amendments to the Law on the State Prosecutor's Office in the proposed form.
"The text of the Draft Amendments to the Law on the State Prosecutor's Office was received by Democratic Montenegro on the same day when the Draft was promoted by the Deputy Prime Minister at a press conference, and accepted by the Democratic Front on the same day in the press. Democratic Montenegro believes that the Deputy Prime Minister of Montenegro, Dritan Abazović, consulted the European Commission, the Venice Commission and other international partners of Montenegro who monitor the state of the rule of law in Montenegro before proposing the text of the Draft Law."
Democrats, as they state, bearing in mind that the proposer of the Draft Law is the Deputy Prime Minister, believe that the proposals and suggestions of the Government have been respected and included in the text of the Draft Law.
"We have decided that due to the previously stated facts, but also because the Draft Law has already been agreed and accepted by our colleagues DF and URA, as a significant part of the parliamentary majority, we will not intervene on the text of the Draft, but to accept it in the proposed form, believing that it was previously agreed with the views of the Venice Commission, and that European experts were consulted in the process of drafting the text of the Draft Law. In order not to get into the political situation we got into again when proposing previous prosecutorial laws, we need to agree: when the text of the aforementioned law is sent to the parliamentary procedure, in what form, who is the proposer, and whether space and time are left for public discussion and the inclusion of all interested parties and relevant partners. That is, we need to take a position on the possible date of the session in question," Bogdanović and Koprivica conclude.
