Representatives of the Municipal Committees of the New Serbian Democracy (NSD), Democratic People's Party (DNP), Democratic Montenegro and the Movement for Pljevlja, Milan Lekić, Milojica Tešović, Vladislav Bojović and Novica Stanić, called on the Police Directorate to immediately withdraw its decision on the appointment of Haris Đurđević for the head of the Pljevlja Security Center.
In a letter sent tonight to Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapić and Dritan Abazović, Minister of Internal Affairs Sergej Sekulović and Director of the Police Directorate Zoran Brđanin, they state "that they cannot take responsibility for possible and already announced protests and riots, which can cause immeasurable damage the process of democratization of Montenegrin society".
"The appointment of Haris Đurđević, one of the closest collaborators of the previous chief Dragan Slavulj, as the new chief of police in Pljevlje represents a direct insult to a large number of citizens of Pljevlje as well as our policemen. With this act, the Police Directorate of Montenegro and those who control it took an absolutely unacceptable position that they are from Pljevlja The Serbs were really behind the incidents that happened after August 30 in Pljevlje, sending both Bosniaks and Muslims a completely false message about the alleged embeddedness and ways of achieving their security. Such an assessment and the act that resulted from it is an absolute lie, and the best proof is the fact that during the nine months of organizing the lithia in Pljevlja, not even the smallest incident was recorded, even the inter-ethnic relations were raised to a significantly higher quality level. The proof that the attempt to assemble the omcodemat after August 30 was organized by DPS activists, whose names we published, is also that for seven full months, they have not been prosecuted before the competent authorities, for which the just-appointed Haris Đurđević is one of the most responsible," the open letter states.
They point out that they have nothing against a Bosniak or a Muslim being the chief of police in Pljevlja, "but we are firmly against it being an established member of the defeated regime, one of the most prominent DPS soldiers, police thug and beater Haris Đurđević."
"Pljevlja and the Pljevlja police are not a national but a local issue, the drama of which is heightened by difficult-to-understand appointments coming from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Police Directorate in Podgorica. We see the complete ignoring of the will of two-thirds of the citizens of Pljevlja, including the Bosniaks, from the past elections as a continuation of the DPS rule and after the defeat in the elections, which no reasonable or well-intentioned person who contributed to the changes can accept or understand. How else to interpret the appointment of Haris Šurđević as the first Pljevlja policeman other than as poking a finger in the eye of all honest people in Pljevlja. Is it a reasonable move to oppose the alleged to Serbian nationalism, the appointment to the top position in the police of one whom the entire city recognizes for his extreme political and nationalist views," Lekić, Bojović, Tešović and Stanić state in the letter.
In a separate statement, the Socialist People's Party also announced its opposition to the appointment of Haris Đurđević as the new head of the Pljevlja Security Center.
"During the day, a proclamation by a group of citizens appeared in which they strongly condemn this move by the Minister of Internal Affairs and the Director of the Police Administration, citing a series of arguments against the appointment of Đurđević to such a responsible position, which is under public scrutiny like few others. OO of the SNP Pljevlja believes necessary to make a public statement on this occasion and to call the citizens of Pljevlja for peace, and above all for the preservation of inter-ethnic and inter-religious tolerance, expressing understanding for the reactions that followed the aforementioned appointment. law and a mandatory rule that applies in all democracies, which is that politically engaged persons are not appointed to responsible positions in the police service, which cannot apply to Mr. Đurđević, who as a long-time soldier of the DPS is known to the people of Pljevlja for his, at least inappropriate and unprofessional attitudes, according to the events that preceded the fall of the DPS dictatorship," the statement said.
Đurđević, they point out in the SNP, is particularly well-known for his views on the participants of the lithia, whom he publicly called out and belittled the importance of these popular protests.
"It is quite clear that the appointment of such persons to positions that require complete objectivity and impartiality is a bad and unprofessional, not to say malicious move. We will not believe that the new Montenegrin government, of which the SNP is a part, appoints high civil servants in such an irresponsible manner without taking into account about the consequences of such decisions and ignoring the political will expressed by the citizens of Pljevlja in the previous parliamentary elections. party, and not to receive promotions and the opportunity to decide on the fate of all citizens of Pljevlja," the SNP press release states.
