Montenegrin tourism, which is the most important breadwinner for a good part of Montenegrin families and due to its traditional share in the gross domestic product (GDP), must be approached with much more seriousness than the current government does, according to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
SDP Vice President Aleksandar Đurović said that the recession of Montenegrin tourism compared to the pre-coronavirus period will probably continue this year as well.
"Recovery and results from 2019 are not even realistically expected this year, but what we expected, or at least what we hoped for, is a different approach of the current government to one of the most important economic branches in Montenegro," said Đurović in a statement.
For Montenegrin tourism, as he said, the work of the Ministry of Health is important, especially at this moment, in order to immunize as many Montenegrin citizens as possible and to send a message about a safe tourist destination.
"Although unfortunately, and this is a problem inherited from the previous government, we cannot boast of the quality of the health care system and care regardless of the dedicated and selfless work of our doctors and medical staff," added Đurović.
As he said, the national airline is also important for Montenegrin tourism, old or new, it must be a tool in the hands of the Government that will enable access to our tourist centers.
"Montenegro's airports are also important for Montenegrin tourism, which are our gateway to the world and the gateway to the world in Montenegro," Đurović believes.
According to him, the state budget is important for Montenegrin tourism, of course, as well as for the functioning of the state itself, the state budget, the delay of which only complicates the economic situation in Montenegro and as such, as can be seen, is neither able to help the economy nor preserve jobs or to enable preparation for this tourist season.
"The pre-season has passed, and there wasn't any, the season is on the threshold and it seems that it will be bad, if it will be at all", added Đurović.
He stated that new problems arise every day, the resignation of the acting director of the Airport, the non-functioning of the national airline, the cancellation of flights from important tourist destinations.
"Dear gentlemen from the current government, do the little that depends on you this season. Turn to tourism and the economy, the Montenegrin people will not be fed by a basic contract with the neighboring church, and most of them by the well-known party employment in depth, the people do not need bread, nor political games as they have unfortunately learned from our political scene. The people and the economy need opportunities and conditions to earn that bread themselves, and a stable system that will not be an obstacle for them, but a support in achieving those goals", said Đurović.
He stated that it is necessary to turn to legislation, business incentives, suppression of corruption and nepotism, to his house and yard and added that Montenegro does not need more problems, but solutions.
