The first task of the newly formed Bureau for Operational Coordination will be to assemble teams from the security sector that will work on elucidating serious crimes committed in recent years.
This is what the Coordinator of the Bureau, Deputy Prime Minister Dritan Abazović told "Vijesta".
On Friday, at the electronic session of the National Security Council, Abazović was appointed as the coordinator of that body, which was formed for the first time in Montenegro.
"At the beginning of the week, we will hold the first session, in order to agree on priorities. Before us are great security challenges, but also the burden of all the unsolved crimes from the area of organized crime from the past, which have been answered with inaction for years. However, I believe that by strengthening this sector, Montenegro can deal with all of this. "Several tasks will be set before the members of the Bureau on the first day," said Abazović.
The Deputy Prime Minister, who is also the coordinator of the security services, received the support of almost the entire composition of the Council.
The bureau will be in charge of executing and realizing the conclusions of the National Security Council, determining the tasks of the intelligence sector, and coordinating the activities of authorities from that sector.
The members of the Bureau are the directors of the National Security Agency and the Police Directorate, the Directorate for the Prevention of Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism, the Chiefs of the General Staff of the Army of Montenegro, the Department for Military Intelligence and Security Affairs of the Ministry of Defense, the Secretary of the National Security Council and the Director General of the Directorate for Security protective affairs and supervision of the Ministry of the Interior.
According to the documents that "Vijesti" had access to, the Bureau is responsible for the operational coordination and harmonization of the activities of the authorities that make up the security sector.
"Representatives of other state bodies, ministries and other administrative bodies, other organizations and institutions, as well as experts from the field of national security, take part in the work of the Bureau for Operational Coordination, upon invitation," says the act on the formation of the Bureau.
In the part where the tasks of the Bureau are foreseen, it is written that they coordinate the execution of the guidelines and conclusions of the National Security Council, operationally harmonize and coordinate the activities of the authorities that make up the intelligence-security sector.
Also, it is they who will determine the tasks that are carried out through the operational communication of the work of the bodies that make up the intelligence-security sector and harmonize and coordinate activities related to the realization of those tasks.
"Educates interdepartmental working groups, teams, etc. for the realization of tasks that require operational coordination of activities and determines their tasks. It determines other ways of operationally harmonizing the activities of the bodies that make up the intelligence-security sector and takes care of their implementation," the documents say.
Since he was appointed coordinator of the security services, Abazović has repeatedly announced a tough fight against organized crime.
According to the knowledge of "Vijesti", the Montenegrin Government had the support of foreign experts from countries where such bodies exist for the formation of the Bureau.
The interlocutor from the executive branch explained that, after the appointment of Abazović as Bureau coordinator, the only thing left to do is for Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapić to sign the acts, so that the first session could be convened.
The same interlocutor said that Abazović is already focused on several cases that have been unsolved for years, for which, it is believed, special bodies will be formed that will work to solve criminal offenses in the field of organized crime - drug and tobacco smuggling, high corruption, criminal crimes in the field of economic crime, murder...
