The previous president of Herceg Novi Municipality, Stevan Katic, was re-elected today to that position for the next four years at the second session of the local parliament convened under emergency procedure, reports Radio Jadran.
Out of the 30 councilors present, 24 councilors from the coalition led by the Democrats, the Black on White coalition, the Prave Crne Gore coalition, Novska Lista voted for Katić, while 6 councilors from the European Team for Herceg Novi coalition voted against it.
"I swear that I will perform the duties of the President of the Municipality in accordance with the Constitution, the Law and the Statute of the Municipality, so God help me," Katic said while taking the oath.
He thanked everyone for the renewed trust, assuring that he will do everything to justify that trust, stressing that his door is open to everyone.
He also expressed his belief that, together with all councilors, he will continue to work for the benefit of the city, as was the case in the previous period.
"What will be our priority in the coming period are the economic recovery of the city after the Covid-19 pandemic, even more significant care for the socially vulnerable population, creating conditions for new jobs, continuing the infrastructural development of the city through all local communities and, what is most important, the fulfillment of all goals planned by the Herceg Novi Development Strategy until 2027, which we adopted at the end of the previous year," he pointed out.
He recalled that four years ago he said at the same place that many things would not be possible without support from the state level, which "was not in our favor, which was confirmed in the end", because, as he said, until August 30 had obstructions from the former government and a stepmotherly relationship towards our Municipality, and that after the change of government on August 30, a partnership relationship with the current Government was established in a short time.
"The first result of this is the abolition of tolls on the road Meljina - Petijevići, which we have insisted on for the past four years. This is only the beginning of what I expect we will realize through this cooperation. until then, the opposition authorities in Novi could not implement it. I am primarily referring to resolving the status of the Meljina Hospital, Vektra Boka, the construction of a school in Igalo, the bypass around the city and many other projects," Katic added.
Previously, Katic resigned from the position of councilor, and he will be replaced by Milan Bošković.
By force of law, the mandate of the current vice-presidents of the Municipality, Miloš Konjević and Vesna Samardžić, has ended.
