The smoke coming from the Mostina landfill is poisoning the citizens, it was announced today from the Rožaj Board of the Citizens' Movement URA.
"Considering that for years the residents of many villages could not find understanding from the local authorities to protect them from the thick smoke that regularly comes from the Mostina municipal landfill, a large number of residents of those rural areas turned to the Citizens' Movement URA to help them and to jointly find appropriate solution, because, according to them, there is a great fear of infection and we all have to recognize this big problem of endangering the environment in Rožaje," announced the president of the Rožaje committee of the Citizens' Movement URA, Husein Ljaić.
Ljaić added that according to the data in his possession, a large number of citizens of Rožaj, around 70 percent, believe that waste, which is everywhere, is the biggest environmental problem in Rožaj.
"The problem of wild landfills stationed next to the rivers of Rožaj, and especially next to the river Ibar, should be highlighted. Currently, the biggest problem is the municipal landfill Mostina in the Ibar canyon, which is also next to the Ibar highway, and which burns almost non-stop and whose smoke bothers drivers the most. and then to the inhabitants of the surrounding villages, especially those in Besnik, Bać, Malindbrava and Radetina. The problem of Mostina has been going on for a long time, for years, and it is the same with the river Ibar, which is directly threatened because most of the waste at that landfill goes right into its "Various petitions have been launched regarding this case, but so far there has been no adequate solution, so the question arises whether it is the ignorance of the authorities or the impossibility to solve the mentioned problem," said Ljaić.
The president of the Rožaj URE appealed to the authorities from the local government to urgently find a suitable model to protect the inhabitants of the surrounding villages from the possible consequences of poisoning.
"Professional maintenance and organization by the Municipal Enterprise is needed, then project preparation of the landfill and the problem will be solved," concluded Ljaić.
