When asked how they would declare themselves ethnically/nationally if a census were held at this moment, 45 percent of citizens would declare themselves as Montenegrins, and 30 percent as Serbs, according to research by the Center for Democracy and Human Rights (CEDEM).
According to the same survey, 5,7 percent of Bosniaks, 4,3 percent of Muslims, 3,8 percent of Albanians, while 0,8 percent would be registered as Serbs-Montenegrins, would be on the census.
0,5 percent would declare themselves as Muslim-Montenegrins, 0,4 percent as Croats, 0,3 percent as Bosnian Montenegrins, while over eight percent say they do not want to declare themselves.
50,9 percent of citizens believe that the census should be held regularly this year, while 26,8 percent believe that we should wait until the political situation has less influence on the declaration, and 22,3 percent have no opinion.
In the 2011 census, there were 44,98 percent of Montenegrins, 28,73 percent of Serbs, 8,65 percent of Bosniaks, 4,91 percent of Albanians and 3.31 percent of Muslims.
