The representative of the Democratic Party of Socialists, Bogdan Fatić, said that by submitting the Draft Law on Amendments to the Law on Local Self-Government Financing, the Government of Montenegro wants to deprive municipalities of 11,8 million euros annually.

Fatić clarified that the Government has submitted a proposal to the parliamentary procedure, according to which municipalities are not assigned or assigned part of the tax on the income of natural persons through the Equalization Fund.

Without these funds, he believes, municipalities are put to a serious test of sustainability, because in moments of severe economic crisis, they face the problem of consolidating finances and struggle with financial sustainability.

"With a non-transparent approach, the government made a decision that there should not be a public discussion regarding this law, but only submitted it to interested parties for their opinion. However, that was purely pro forma, because even after the Union of Municipalities gave a negative opinion, the government did not accept it, but stuck to its proposed law," announced Fatić.

The MP of DPS believes that with the mentioned changes in the law, the current government shows that it has no feeling for the citizens of this country, nor does it care about the real and objective needs of the municipalities.

In addition to all that, he adds, the government is rudely expressing its lack of inclusiveness of interested parties and the public in the process of preparing new legal solutions, which in this case may result in "the questionable survival and further development of the municipalities dominantly in the north of Montenegro."
