The President of the Assembly, Aleksa Bečić, said yesterday that the genocide in Srebrenica and its commemoration must be an unspeakable reminder that life in peace has an inestimable value.
In his video message, which he addressed to the participants of the commemoration of the victims in Potočari, he said that after 26 years since the painful and tragic event, he wants, as the President of the Assembly, but also as a son, brother, relative and neighbor and always as a human being, to send expressions of deep compassion in the form and suffering that must be a reminder to everyone that a life in peace has an inexpressible value.
The 26th anniversary of the crime was marked yesterday in the Memorial Center in Potočari.
This year, the remains of 19 victims of genocide were buried in the Memorial Center. The youngest of them was 16 years old, and the oldest 63 years old...
Numerous officials from around the world and the region spoke at the commemoration, and numerous officials from Montenegro were also present.
Bečić reminded that Montenegro, through the Resolution, condemned the genocide in Srebrenica, as well as those who deny it.
"What no one has ever done, and in order to cut the further roots of the conflict and finally dismantle abuses, we condemned attempts to assign responsibility or blame to the Serb, Bosniak or Croat people for genocide or crimes against humanity and other crimes. Responsibility can be individual. No nation can be labeled as genocidal or criminal. Criminals have a name and a surname".
From Montenegrin officials, the commemoration was attended by Montenegrin President Milo Đukanović, Deputy Prime Minister Dritan Abazović and Minister of Foreign Affairs Đorđe Radulović.
The Government's delegation included the Prime Minister's advisor for minorities, Maida Gorčevič, and the director of the Diaspora Administration, Seid Hadžić.
Đukanović told journalists that the policies of nationalism and fascist ideas are back on the scene and said that it is necessary to establish a clear political democratic front so that they do not happen again.
He pointed out that such events are an opportunity to strengthen the front of resistance against retrograde ideas.
"If we do not timely establish a clear political democratic front in relation to these ideas, we are in danger that these ideas will be repeated, but let's hope not with such dire consequences".
He said that it is time to restore the political ideologies from the early 90s that led to terrible tragedies, the culmination of which was the genocide in Srebrenica.
Đukanović pointed out that he was in Potočari not only to pay tribute to the victims of genocide, but also to express his respect for the families of the victims, the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the international institutions that for 26 years have contributed to the full truth and the achievement of justice for the perpetrators of that most terrible crime.
Yesterday, Abazović was hosted in Potočari by the president of the "Mothers of Srebrenica" Association, Munira Subašić.
The Government announced that Subašić expressed her gratitude for the visit and expressed her condolences to the families of the victims of the genocide and the support given to them by the delegation of Montenegro.
Abazović told N1 that the large delegation is a message that Montenegro is a friendly country and that its policy is aimed at peace and confronting the past.
"We haven't exhausted all the war crimes in recent decades, nor have we examined our role in it, but some new generations are coming and maybe they will be more successful in this. We will not have any restrictions to enforce the law and investigate the responsibility of some of our people or politicians who participated in the bloody disintegration of the former Yugoslavia. Today there was a desire to be there and to condemn not only the genocide in Srebrenica, but also all crimes and to stand in solidarity with the families of all the victims of the former Yugoslavia".
Representatives of parties from Montenegro also attended the commemoration. On behalf of the Bosniak Party, in Potočari yesterday were President Ervin Ibrahimović, MPs Kenana Strujić Harbić and Amer Smailović, as well as dozens of members of the BS Youth Forum.
They submitted a copy of the Resolution on the genocide in Srebrenica, which was recently adopted by the Assembly.
On behalf of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the commemoration was attended by party vice-president Adis Balota, MP Draginja Vuksanović Stanković and head of the media team Mirko Stanić.
The commemoration was attended by Nihad Canović and Adil Miljuš on behalf of the Social Democrats, and Jelena Marković, a member of the Presidency of the Liberal Party, with members of the party.
According to the indictments of the Hague Tribunal, soldiers under the command of General Ratko Mladić organized and systematically killed around 19 Muslim men and boys until July 8.000. About 30 thousand women and children were deported in two days.
In 2007, the International Court of Justice in The Hague issued a verdict qualifying the massacre in Srebrenica as an act of genocide.
Resolutions on Srebrenica confirming that verdict were passed by the parliaments of the countries of the European Union, Canada, the USA, and Australia.
In July 2009, the Parliament of Montenegro adopted the Declaration on the acceptance of the resolution of the European Parliament on Srebrenica, which condemns the crime in that Bosnian-Herzegovinian city, as well as other crimes committed during the conflict in the former Yugoslavia.
On June 17 of this year, the Parliament of Montenegro adopted the Resolution on the genocide in Srebrenica.
Due to the statement in the Assembly in which he relativized the crime, the Minister of Justice and Human and Minority Rights, Vladimir Leposavic, was dismissed, and after the adoption of the resolution in the Parliament, the Government was also shaken. The Democratic Front accused certain colleagues from the parliamentary majority and Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapić of declaring the Serbian people genocidal in this way, even though the adoption of the amendment emphasized that individuals were responsible for the crime, not any nation.
Resolution - an important step towards reconciliation
The head of the Delegation of the European Union (EU) in Montenegro, Oana Kristina Popa, announced on Twitter that the Resolution on the genocide in Srebrenica of the Parliament of Montenegro is an important step in the affirmation of reconciliation in the Western Balkans.
The head of the EU Delegation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Johan Satler, said that the decision of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina that July 11 should not be the Day of Mourning throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina is "a slap in the face to the families who are burying their loved ones today".
"An unacceptable message on this day and a slap in the face to those who buried their loved ones. Today, 19 families are burying the remains of their loved ones. We have to keep that in mind".
Flowers in the Memorial Park on Pobrežje for all civilian victims
The delegation of the Ministry of Justice, Human and Minority Rights, led by the Minister of the Interior and the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Sergej Sekulović, yesterday participated in the memorial gathering called "Soul for Srebrenica" organized by the Bosniak Council in Montenegro.
By laying flowers in the Pobrežje Memorial Park in Podgorica, the delegation paid respect to the civilian victims and expressed solidarity with the survivors.
