After a decade of struggle by many social actors and well-intentioned citizens, one of the biggest natural pearls of the state of Montenegro is state property again, thanks to yesterday's decision of the Privatization Council of the Government of Montenegro, and it is one of the most significant victories over the very possible corruption activities and predatory privatizations that took place in Montenegro, it was announced today from the Civic Movement URA.
"We had one theft in full view of the public, where the land "Solane" of almost 15 million square meters was given to Veselin Barović for only 800 thousand euros, after which he intended to sell it for almost 260 million euros and convert it into construction land." , they said from URE.
As they state, from the prosecutor's office, in which there must be changes, they expect an examination of all affairs related to Solana and the responsibility of the authorities from the state during that period, as well as of all persons associated with them in this "ultimate and obvious corruption business".
URE points out the efforts and struggles of all social actors from the country and abroad who opposed such uses for Solana, all citizens, the NGO sector, activists, ambassadors, EU institutions...
"Thank you for everything, because only the synergy of all those struggles produced the results we see today. Thank you to former German ambassador Gudrun Steinaker, who particularly insisted on solving this issue, thank you to our partners from the European Greens, thank you to all NGO organizations and all activists who fought behind us in this decade", says the URE announcement.
They note that the area of Ulcinj Salt Lake is the most important habitat for migration, wintering, nesting and feeding of birds on the entire eastern coast of the Adriatic.
"To date, 240 species of birds have been registered at Solana, and in the spring, hundreds and thousands of waterfowl are registered that stop here for rest and food. 114 thousand plant species were registered in the salt basins, and 24 species of fish in the waters of the salt basins, and 12 species of amphibians, 28 species of reptiles and 33 species of mammals on the dikes".
They expect the Government of Montenegro to find a way to restore salt production in that area and to protect the Saltworks as a natural reserve and eco-zone of unique beauty in a conversation with renowned partners.
