The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, said today that the events in Montenegro are a continuation of the ideologies according to which the Serbian Church should be extinguished.
"Their political plan in Montenegro was to separate the Metropolitanate of Montenegrin and the Littoral from the SPC (Serbian Orthodox Church), to declare it initially the Orthodox Church in Montenegro, and with that the Serbs would eventually assimilate, disappear and have a clear two-thirds and three-quarters majority of the Montenegrin Orthodox people," Vučić told TV Prva.
Vučić said that the Serbs in Montenegro "are only asking for the right to freedom of religion, language and writing, just as in the Republika Srpska they are only asking for respect for Dayton, not secession."
Commenting on Montenegrin President Milo Đukanović's statements about Greater Serbia's aspirations towards that country, Vučić said that Serbia has no aspirations towards Montenegro, with which it wants the closest and best possible relations.
"We do not and have never had the intention of subjugating anyone. And to answer Mr. Đukanović - neither you nor anyone else will succeed in subduing Serbia and you will no longer subjugate it as you have done for the past 30 years," said Vučić.
He added that Serbia was ruled from Montenegro "in all possible ways, through crime, through police officials, political officials, officials in the intelligence structures" but that those people "who worked against Serbia were mostly purged".
"I'm telling you now, we don't want to govern Montenegro, we want brotherly and friendly relations, but I guarantee you, as long as I'm alive, I won't let you subjugate Serbia the way you subjugated it... You know what that means and what you should do ", he said.
