Throughout history there will be times when multilateralism is on the test, as it is currently the case, but there is no doubt that we have the potential to turn the situation in our favor, said Minister of Foreign Affairs Đorđe Radulović, participating in the Ministerial meeting of the Alliance for Multilateralism, on the sidelines of this year's sessions of the United Nations General Assembly.
At the conference, which was opened by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Germany and France, Heiko Maas and Jean-Yves Le Drian, the head of Montenegrin diplomacy confirmed that Montenegro provides clear support for the values and goals promoted by the Alliance, assessing that they are an invaluable tool for strengthening international unity and solidarity, and that the health crisis, which deepened already existing conflicts, actually represents a clear warning that multilateralism must be invested more than ever before.
"The current pandemic has also led to serious violations of human rights around the world, especially among the most vulnerable groups - women and girls," said Radulović, as reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He said that the fight against the crisis and the accompanying recovery must be fair, equal and sustainable, and that the full implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement Agenda and international standards on human rights are of great importance for creating a world adequately prepared for future systemic challenges.
The head of Montenegrin diplomacy also participated in the Conference of States Signatories to the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT), which was adopted by the UNSC in 1996, but which is still awaiting ratification by eight states. "The twenty-fifth anniversary is an opportunity to reiterate that this Treaty has an essential role in the process of nuclear disarmament at the global level, and is also a reminder that without a permanent and legally binding entry into force, peace and stability will be in danger," Radulović said. confirming Montenegro's commitment to the goals of that document.
During his stay in New York, Radulović also met with the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Peter Sijart. On that occasion, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, excellent bilateral cooperation was confirmed and a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the diplomatic academies of the two countries.
Discussing the national efforts to overcome the challenges of the pandemic, the head of Montenegrin diplomacy thanked for the donation of 200 thousand vaccines against Kovid-19 in July. The meeting emphasized the importance of further mutual support in multilateral forums.
