Montenegro's membership in the European Union (EU) is a national priority, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Đorđe Radulović, adding that the Government is strongly in favor of closing all negotiation chapters.

In Vienna, he met with the Minister of European and Foreign Affairs of Austria, Alexander Schallenberg, where he participated in the 17th Salzburg Europe Summit the previous days.

Radulović said that the issue of EU expansion to the Western Balkans is important for the region, but also for the Union itself, and an example of continuous support among member countries comes, as he said, precisely from Austria.

As stated in the announcement, Schallenberg focused on the question of the European perspective, as well as the upcoming EU Summit - Western Balkans, which will be held in Slovenia at the beginning of October.

"Pointing out that "accession to the Union is the result of the efforts of the entire nation", the Austrian diplomat pointed out the necessity for Montenegro to resolve the divisions in society through dialogue," the announcement says.

Radulović, as the MFA said, pointed to the fact that membership in the EU is a national priority, and that the Government is strongly committed to achieving readiness to close all negotiation chapters.

"Overcoming social divisions is a dream that, in addition to the European dream, new generations of Montenegrin citizens dream of," said Radulović.

This, he said, can only be achieved through dialogue and mutual understanding.

Radulović said that the alignment of the foreign and security policy of Montenegro with the EU is one hundred percent.

"Which sends an unequivocal message about the geopolitical orientation of our country, which is why he expressed the hope that the EU will encourage reforms by recognizing the progress achieved in a timely manner," the statement said.

Schallenberg, as the MFA said, confirmed Austria's commitment to the further integration of the Western Balkans into the EU.

Radulović, as stated in the announcement, pointed out that Montenegro appreciates the fact that Austria contributes to the intensification of Montenegro's negotiation process with the EU.

"Just like technical and expert assistance, which is recognized as a strong impulse in the implementation of European legal regulations in the areas of greatest importance for socio-economic development," the statement added.

The MFA said that the meeting discussed the improvement of economic relations and investments from Austria, as well as the visits of the highest Austrian officials to Montenegro.
