Leaders of the opposition will not discuss the presidential candidate before the end of local elections in four municipalities, "Vijesti" has learned.
The elections in Cetinje, Mojkovac, Petnjica and Tuzi will be held on November 26, and all parties that have representatives in the parliament except Demos and United Montenegro will participate in them.
According to the claims of "Vijesti" interlocutors from the so-called civil opposition talks about the presidential candidate could only be scheduled for the beginning of December. The reason for the delay is, as stated, the obligations of party officials in the campaign.
"At the moment, the focus is on the local elections, where we will try to continue with the removal of the DPS authorities, as in Budva, Kotor and Herceg Novi. That is why all officials are maximally engaged in the field and it would be difficult to find time for discussions on such a serious topic. such as the presidential elections", said the interlocutor of "Vijesti".
Official of the Socialist People's Party (SNP) Dragoslav Šćekić called on the opposition to find a model for joint action and gathering around one presidential candidate, stating that the party is ready to offer its own candidate.
He said that the opposition should put aside possible disagreements, personal vanity, programmatic differences or unfulfilled or unrealistic ambitions. SNP leader Vladimir Joković said that the party is ready to propose its presidential candidate if there is no agreement within the opposition on a joint performance.
The leader of the civil movement URA, Dritan Abazović, previously proposed that the presidential candidate of the opposition be a woman, while the leader of the Democrats, Aleksa Bečić, said that he would declare his candidacy after the decision of the party authorities. He then said that the eventual victory in the presidential elections depends solely on the strength of the political subject and the popularity of the leader who will lead it.
The leader of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), Milo Đukanović, said that the party will announce its presidential candidate in the second half of November, stating that it will run "if the state needs it".
Lekić is scheduling a meeting next week at the latest
The president of Demos, Miodrag Lekić, should schedule a meeting for the end of this week or the beginning of next week. civil opposition.
As the interlocutor of "Vijesti" said, at that meeting, among other things, the pressures of the ruling coalition on the editorial policy of the Public Service should be discussed.
The Front is hoping for the consent of Jovićević
Members of the presidency of the Democratic Front will request a meeting of the leaders of all parliamentary opposition parties in early December at the latest to discuss the presidential elections.
According to the claims of "Vijesti" interlocutors from that political alliance, the DF will ask the rest of the opposition to make a public statement about the proposal to support a non-party candidate in the presidential elections.
"Since they have not made a decisive statement so far, we expect them to tell us then whether they have their own proposal. We have to have a position on this, in order to prepare for the campaign in time", said the interlocutor of "VIjesti" from DF.
Members of the presidency of the Front, Andrija Mandić and Milan Knežević, said in May, during their visit to Russia, that the presidential elections are an opportunity for the opposition, united around one presidential candidate, to defeat the DPS candidate. They then said that the Front was ready to propose a candidate "as the strongest opposition entity", but the rest of the opposition rejected the proposal.
The leaders of the DF negotiated the candidacy for the presidential elections with the former minister of the interior, Andrija Jovićević, but he said that it is too early to talk about such an engagement.
